Does tennokai work well on glaives?

Question/Request

I'm currently working on a glaive build but i got currious if it would be worth to put an exilus on it to try using tennokai on it. But my question is if the whole system sinergizes well with glaives or if it would just be a waste of an adapter.

probably not. The typical glaive builds use initial combo mods and spam heavy attack. You don't really build combo.

Well with tennokai you could in theory but it doesn’t work properly on glaives. Also yeah it’s usually heavy spam like you said so less incentive to just frisbee and let it come back naturally while being shot.

They do not work well, let me explain. glaives work like this: throw (hold melee) -> detonate (heavy atk button). Nothing new so far. Tennokai works like this: on melee atk, get “opportunity” for free heavy atk. Now the problem: this opportunity do not last very long. While you can get it by throwing your glaive you are usually stuck in animation or something else that block you from activating the tennokai heavy atk (if I remember correctly, only 70% sure about the key problem that made me give up on glaive+tennokai), you could throw it again to detonate(using the tennokai opportunity) but by the time you throw it again the opportunity’s time to activate would have ended. So for glaives it is too clunky to work like normal melee weapons. Let’s hope it’s just for now but the tennokai only for non glaive melee could be good for player choice and balance.

No point.

I just use the mod for movement speed on heavy attacks. Everything else is pretty much a waste.

Nah, Glaives are just yo yo grenades at this point. Taking time to normal attack or use the bounces for Tennokai all just result in less damage overall.

Save your adapter for a different weapon.

And honestly, the arguable 2 best melee weapons in the game are both Glaives. Them being the Glaive Prime and the Xoris with Melee Influence. So they really don't need the Tennokai boost.

For Xoris specifically, yes (experimental build I'm currently using). Xoris locks in your built up combo, so you can get it to 12x and keep it there, since Tennokai does not use up combo on Heavy Attack.

Aerial attack with Glaives are also radial and can hit multiple enemies, making it quickly build combo, especially for frames with a grouping ability/tool.

Another thing is that Xoris has a 100% chance to inflict a Elec proc, meaning Melee Influence is on the table.

And because of this, when you use this in conjunction with Armor stripping, your damage from the explosion + DoT's will wipe out a lot of enemies, even in SP.

Drop me a line and I can demo it for you u/Frank_on_the_rift_87. I haven't done a video on it yet, but it is very strong with Wisp.

Edit:

With that in mind, if you wanted to use a Tennokai build on a non Xoris Glaive, you'd need Combo Duration from Arcanes like Primary/Secondary Dexterity or use Naramon Focus to help curb the insta drain of your combo when you are not attacking. But as far as I can tell right now, Xoris is one of the best for it due to Melee Influence.

Damn, I'll definitely keep it in mind when i do build for the xoris, thanks!

Use Opportunity's Reach for 4s on Tennokai window. Once you see it proc, hold melee to immediately recall and just keep holding to throw again, then press heavy attack to detonate for big PP numbers. I find 4 seconds to be enough for me. Been doing close to 300k in electricity damage procs to SP Manic Bombardier level 220 in the Simulacrum.

Hear me out

Tennokai on Corrufel (the best weapon in the game btw) (heavy bias but shhh)

It's that Citrine's scythe right?
