Blueprints Requiring Mutagen Sample[]
Notes[]
Tips[]
- Since Mutagen Samples are considered a rare drop on Eris while being uncommon on Deimos, it is advised to visit the latter when attempting to farm the resource efficiently.
Trivia[]
- Mutagen Samples had several changes to their drop locations.
From Update 8.0 (2013-05-23) to Update 10.0 (2013-09-13), they could drop from Eris and Jupiter, which at the time were controlled by the Infested.
From Update 10 to Update 14.1 (2014-07-30), they were limited to the Orokin Derelict, which became Deimos in Update 29.0 (2020-08-25).
From Update 14.1 (2014-07-30) onwards Eris could drop Mutagen Samples once more.

The most efficient way I've found to farm this is literally through login rewards.
Ah yes, now thats funny. So i made a solo clan, built all neccessary buildings and am already coming to an end of researching all the items... and its already forseeable that i most likely never will finish Hema research because im definitely not going to grind samples for ages only to research this one stupid weapon. Fuck the devs, thats just yet another "lets make this one item extremely shitty to get, it might lead to them wanting to finish all research so theyre buying platinum to buy boosters to farm that one item faster". And even with both boosters + looter frame + Smeeta it would be a massive grind of several hours in steelpath... just to research one fucking weapon. Not to mention all the samples you need for many other things in this game. Yeah alright, well done, developers. So i will have researched literally everything except one. fucking. item. Thumbs up to this design choice, i hope the responsible guy gets cancer and dies a very slow and cruel death.
The Hema is also be my last research item in the dojo along with the colour research. I don't care about the grind because nobody will ever ask me why I don't have it yet. And if I ever finish it then I did it for myself without the unnecessary help of a clan. Because I'm not a tippytappy clanboi but a grown man... ^^
To clarify for people like the one from 5/4, the amount of resources required to complete the research project scales up with clan size. This means that the larger the clan the more resources are required to complete the project. So even at the smallest possible clan size, 1 person, the amount of mutagen samples required to research Hema is still very high compared to how often one encounters them (5000 for a 1 person clan).
I have my own clan and have researched almost everything with only a little focused grinding. Hema's mutagen sample cost is absurdly high and needs to be re-examined. If the quality of the weapon is such that it warrants large numbers of resources as a gate keeping mechanic it would be better to lower the number of mutagen samples and increase the number of mutagen masses required to craft it. Right now the crafting cost per Hema is 5 mutagen masses, which is relatively cheap compared to some other bio lab products.
Your tears are delicious
I have 4 clans in an alliance, 3 are max researched in less than 2 years. We are researching the final clan. Did my first clan on a x100 multiplier because i was a fool and learned the hard way. If we can do it, anyone can do it. Mind over matter. The time spent crying, spent farming. You'd be there by now.
On Exequias [Deimos] after killing the Zealoid Prelate enemies will continue spawning indefinitely without leveling up. This makes it the best location to farm for mutagen samples , with no worries for life support or not being able to kill enemies after a given time.
If thats true then they fixed it already. Tried it out and after killing the rest of the mobs after killing the boss, no more enemies were spawning.
Still works on Steel Path
Solo Nekros with the Amalgam Ripkas True Steel, Smeeta Kavat and Kuva Ogris.
I just did 55 min on Deimos-Terrorem with Double Drop Booster and Drop Chance booster.
(I also had Drop Chance Blessing but don't remember if it stack)
I got 600 Mutagen Sample
Forgot to mention it was on Steel Path*
10 per minute? So only 500 minutes, not too bad.
Shit thats better than farming Ash!
If the droprate on this stuff was any lower, it'd be negative.
Negative is my IQ after farming this ;-;
This thing is a pain to farm, especially when you are trying to complete the biolab research.
I really think the research drops ought to be tied to factions.
Why does killing swathes of infested in Dark Sectors net me a pile of Detonite or Fieldron Samples?
Agreed, it's very confusing when you try to find what where things drop.
I have 12k of these but never farmed them on purpose.
Thats fine and all, but by comparison of why and how many is needed... may you get all you need without ever having to farm for it, Amen.
You need 5k just for Hema research. It's actual cancer.
They've upped the droprates like 100x, it used to be way more rare, now you easily passively get thousands
So I went to finish the "hema farm" recently thanks to a double booster (chance + quantity) on deimos SP survival with my nekros.
On 3 session of 1 hour, I got between 300-400 / hour (347, 383 and 356).
In 3 hour (again, double booster) I got a little more than 1000.
Hema is 5000 so the math is easy : 3 hours * 5 = 15 hours of double booster + loot frame on SP to farm ressources for that.
Regular Deimos survival should work as well, right?
I got 13...
I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this I hate this
So do i so do i so do i so do i
I feel the sheer volume of raw emotion put into each word of this down to the very essence of my being. I have hated this resource for as long as I can remember. The echoes of our collective disdain shall resonate for years to come.
I think it could be worse than tellurium to farm.
Tellurium is easy, thanks to the Spare Parts mod and either Protea's augment or just a bunch of suicide runs. This? This is how it feels to lose hope.
Railjack Cephalon Blueprint missing from required materials.
Daily Login: Resource Drop Chance Booster, + Resource Drop Chance Blessing - 4 people squad (random players) getting 220 after 21min. That... was pog... and doubled my Mutagen Samples (that I need for the Ghost Clan I'm building)
Recently their drop was stealth-nerfed. Hyf - 4 samples in 10 waves with all kills in Pilfering Strangledome, Akkad - the same in 15 waves.
So if you need 1000, that's only 8 hours of survival.
Or four hours for 1000 if you have a 2x resource booster. Or one hour if you have a team of four - each with a 2x resource booster.
^resource boosters don't stack. The one that doubles resources only affects yourself, and the drop chance one applies once per squad only.
Yeah, but if 4 people collect a sample, thats 4 samples. With booster its half the time.
Squad Health Restore (Large) x100Gear(550)
Its 1650 not 550
550 is the base value for Ghost Clan. If that's 1650 on your side, that means you are in a Shadow Clan which imposes a 3x multiplier.
Aah okay thank you :)
I've seen people using the clan vault to trade these. You have to join their clan and put them in the vault, and then they pay you in plat.
I was like "Wait, that's illegal!"
nekros, khora, 2 people at Terrorem, 40 min, 370 mutagen.
Still excruciatingly slow. ;-;
370 is pretty good for me. my mutagen stash is never above 300 smh, and theres some research that needs like 5000 or 3000 of them.
It's The Hema. I solo-farmed it, which I cannot recommend unless to develop farming skills, which I def did. The weapon was a massive anticlimax.
Hema?
Hema!!!
Hema ;-;
So is there a way to undo clan weapon contribution because hema just ate all of my samples ?
Also 5k for a fcking hema WTF!
I'm on that sweet sweet hema grind too at the moment.... damn. I could have unlocked all the other bio lab weapons by now
Hema is the last research my clan needs.... Now more than ever do I regret being a 1-tenno clan... but I'm deep in the sunk cost fallacy and I'm not backing down.
I feel like the developers accidently hit one too many zeros when programming the Mutagen Sample cost for Hema's research, but couldn't be bothered to hit "backspace" and left us all to suffer.
Oh, no. That shit was intentional. There was a lot of player backlash when it was introduced, but DE later refused to change it because they didn't want to ruin the "pride and sense of accomplishment" of those players who had already farmed it up.
40 minutes in SP Terrorem as Nekros with a Resource Booster and Smeeta yelded 113 samples (and 40 Steel Essence).
35 mins Terrorem 276 samples with Nekros, Resource Booster and Smeeta
^ Lies
You may be doing it wrong, I can get more than that with Nekros on regular Terrorem in less time. Positioning is a big part, gotta make sure you pick the right camp area.
And then Helminth wants 125 per feed. It's ridiculous.
Deimos son, where did you find this?!
I learned it all by watching you
