Balefire Surge is a Warframe Augment Mod for
Hildryn's
Balefire that allows it to restore shields on direct hits from fully charged shots, and giving the ability to instantly destroy nullifier shields.
Stats[]
| Rank | Shield Restore | Nullifier Restore | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 100 | 300 | 6 |
| 1 | 150 | 450 | 7 |
| 2 | 200 | 600 | 8 |
| 3 | 250 | 750 | 9 |
Acquisition[]
- This mod can be acquired by attaining the rank of Partner under The Perrin Sequence, or the rank of Genius under Cephalon Suda, and spending
25,000 to purchase.
Notes[]
- Shield restore is affected by Power Strength.
- Direct hits from multishots will also restore shields.
- Can grant overshields.
- Punch Through will prevent direct hits (except for nullifier shields), negating much of the augment.
- Does not destroy the nullifier shield on sortie hijack missions.

+1 on Arctic Eximus comments. Their shield counts aswell.
This thing doesn't seem to work if enemy hit is ragdolled
Came here to post this. I've been using it all day with Airburst trying to figure out of it was just a hitbox or faction issue, but no. Doesn't work with ragdoll.
So, i'm a hildryn main and i've been testing a lot with this mod. When i'm the host, the mod works perfectly. When i'm the client, i noticed that a few things influence in if whether the mod will work or not:
The functionality of this mod seems to have something to do with 'how much time the projectile stays in contact with the target". From what i have tested, what causes the mod to not work is a combination of punch through and lag. If the target has a very 'thin' body, like a Butcher, the chance of the mod working is way lower than if the target is a Nox, for example, which has a 'thicker' body. To solve that problem, you should always try to aim the charged shot in a way that it can 'go through' the thicker part of the enemy's body. Usually, aiming for the belly or the chest will make this mod work around 70% of the times. Also, it is worth noting that agaisnt heavy units, like Heavy Gunners, Ancients, Nox, Napalm, Bombard, etc. the mod seems to work way more consistently.
Another thing that influences too is the distance between you and the target. If you are too close to the target (less than 3m away) or too far from the target (more than 50m) the mod seems to not work most of the times.
Targets that die very easily like butchers, runners, orokin drones, etc will most of the times cause the mod to not work too.
Artic Eximus are your best friends, because the effect of this mod also works with their snow bubble, which can take several shots before getting destroyed.
Lastly, do not go for headshots when using this mod, as that will make it not work even against heavy units some of the times.
It doesn't seem like it activates when it kills an enemy in one shot? Or it has some kind of timer.
After quick testing it's consistent when I'm alone but when I join other people it doesn't activate consistently on enemies.
Also seems to charge companion shield(I tested by removing her 3 and replacing with Breach Surge for fun, companion shields were going into over and recharging like mine on charged shot)
That may be you using Link Shields
Great mod for sustaining Aegis Storm. It also means you can keep charging your shields against targets with no shield or armour values, i.e. the Infested!
You could use a subsumed ability for that too but yes
I recall reading subsumed abilities can't be used while Aegis Storm is active. With Balefire Surge I'm able to run 100% uptime of Aegis Storm with Haven never dropping Overshields (For toxin immunity and 2x damage) this is while running on a 205% range build and scores of enemies being lifted.
I feel very dumb that it took me over an hour before I realised why this mod was overperforming so highly.
Multishot: it's a thing. You're actually getting just under 3x the listed value. After power strength. That's like, 2k shields per shot even without Blind Rage.
Yeah, it's pretty good.
Is there a internal cooldown they didn't talk about with this thing.... seems to work for a good 3 shots.. then nothing for about 60 seconds.. then works again... kindof odd
It should be noted, because it's not really clear from the mod's description, that the Nullifier bubble destroying effect also requires shots to be fully charged - unlike the Miter's syndicate augment.
We all hate Nullifiers, but it's questionable if this rather inefficient way of fighting them is really worth a mod slot. Balefire charges so slowly, you're definitely going to need more than just Lethal Torrent if you want to use this effectively. Although, if you're running with slow weapons in a high level mission and Nullifiers are a great concern, go ahead.
Dont bother with firerate mods. Stack as much pure damage and +rad as you can and get your fire rate from arcane velocity. I'm running a maxed one on her and my charged shots are quite quick. Charge time is cut nearly in half and it also allows for faster spamming of quick hits at a higher damage bc you're not wasting damage slots for fire rate. Velocity is also the only pistol arcane that affects balefire AND can be procced from it. Seriously worth a try if you wanna just balefire through missions.
Interesting enough. On this wiki under the Ability of Balefire "Tips & Tricks" https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Balefire# it states:
"Balefire is capable of scoring headshots and activating headshot prerequisite effects such as Arcane Precision. However, Arcanes do not affect the Balefire Charger's damage."
So I assumed it meant no Arcanes affecting damage output worked with it. But this comment made me go into Simulacrum and test myself. Arcane Precision absolutely works.
Tested on lvl 150 Aerial Commander with an unmodded Balefire Charger.
Quickshot, normal: 17 damage
Quickshot, With R5 Precision proc'ed. 67 damage.
I'm unsure of whether mechanics have been changed since someone added that information but it seems to be wrong.
Tried this mod out and it doesn't seem to work at all. The Nullifier effect in particular never seems to trigger, and I get better results just shooting them normally with my primary or secondary. Second Hildryn augment mod I've tried that seems to not actually work.
...try fully charging the thing.
tested this with hildryn full str, and yeah, all I will say is that this mod is very underrated :)
What's actually really nice is that since it grants overshields, she now has a way to access the part of her passive that blocks Bleed and Toxin damage. This is especially important in Infested missions where the enemies don't have shields to sap
This mod doesn't seem very consistent. Sometimes standing right in front of a dude and blast him in the face with a charged shot, get no shields back at all (as client).
Yeah, that's my problem too. Real shame as it makes Aegis Storm way more comfortable to use and is just a nice QOL augment in general. I get this problem as both client and host (playing on Switch).
This is exactly what I wanted out of Hildryn. An Augment that lets me use Aegis Storm. Replace your efficiency mods with this and you become Flying Warframe God of Fitness
Imagine having to use efficiency mods on hildryn lmao
^Efficiency does help her signifficantly.
Hildryn doesn't need efficiency at all if you are on the ground spamming Pillage, but if you try to use Aegis with low efficiency you are going to have a horrible time, even with Balefire Surge (Balefire has a pretty substantial cost per shot, have fun trying to break even).
Doesn't seem to trigger when hitting ragdolls
This thing turned out to be quite a gamechanger.
With 338% power strength I get ~2550 shields back per shot.
I can pretty much fly for as long as there are enemies nearby, even though I have only 12% duration.
Worth keeping in mind that as a client its worth keeping the balefires charged for about half a second before firing as the augment won't always activate if you fire them as soon as they are fully charged.
Worth mentioning that this restores shield when hitting a Frost eximus bubble too.
Not 100% sure if that's intentional tho.
