The Grimoire is the prized diary of the prominent
Orokin scientist, Albrecht Entrati. It is a unique secondary weapon that casts bolts of
Electricity, while its Alternate Fire throws a large voltaic orb that can slowly travel forward and bounce around the environment, electrocuting any enemies in its path.
Characteristics[]
- This weapon deals pure
Electricity damage. - Primary fire hurls fully automatic arcane energies.
- Shots explode in a 1 meter radius on impact with a surface or enemy.
- Punch-Through is disabled on the primary fire.
- Alternate Fire throws a orb that travels slowly then explodes after 6 seconds.
- Orb will shock 1 enemy within 6 meters of it every 1 second. Each enemy hit chains to an additional 2 enemies within 6 meters.
- Requires a fully filled meter beneath the reticle in order to fire. The meter takes 45 seconds to completely recharge. Hitting enemies with the primary fire reduces recharge time by 1 second per hit. Picking up secondary or universal ammo reduces recharge time by 10 seconds.
- Radial damage does not count an additional hit.
- Multishot will count as an additional hit.
- Ammo pickups from
Pistol Ammo Mutation do not reduce recharge time.
- Initial hits and explosions apply status separately.
- Explosions do not need direct line of sight to deal damage and will penetrate walls.
Advantages over other Secondary weapons (excluding modular weapons):
- Primary fire has infinite ammo and does not need to reload.
- Normal Attack (wiki attack index 1)
- Above average crit chance (20.00%)
- Very high reload speed (0.00 s)
- Above average total damage (100)
- Above average status chance (26.00%)

- Active Attack (wiki attack index 3)
- High reload speed (0.00 s)
- Active Radial Attack (wiki attack index 4)
- High reload speed (0.00 s)
- Above average total damage (250)
Disadvantages over other Secondary weapons (excluding modular weapons):
- Projectiles have travel time.
- All explosions have linear Damage Falloff from 100% to 20% from central impact.
- Normal Attack (wiki attack index 1)
- Very low magazine (0)
- Very low ammo max (0)
- Very low fire rate (1.50 attacks/sec)
- Very low disposition (●○○○○ (0.60x))
- Normal Radial Attack (wiki attack index 2)

Notes[]
- The Grimoire can use a unique set of mods called Tome Mods in addition to standard Secondary Weapon mods.
- Canticle Mods are exclusive with other Canticle Mods; only one can be equipped at a time.
- Invocation Mods are exclusive with other Invocation Mods; only one can be equipped at a time.
- Tome Mods with on-kill conditions do not require the Grimoire to make the killing blow. The Grimoire only has to damage the enemy once to mark it with Tome effects, then be equipped as the held weapon when the marked enemies are killed by other sources, such as Warframe abilities.
Tips[]
- With infinite ammo and no reload, the Grimoire can benefit greatly from Fire Rate mods to increase damage output.
- Multishot significantly helps charging alternate fire meter, as individual projectile hit contribute toward charging it.
Lore & History[]
Albrecht's Notes[]
- Main article: Fragments/Albrecht
After Albrecht's pilgrimage into the Wall of Lohk, he began documenting important events and details of his research. The pages of his Grimoire soon became full of records detailing the
Cavia experimentations, Albrecht's journey to Duviri, and the purpose behind the Vessels.
Voruna's Continuity[]
- Main article: Leverian#Voruna
The Grimoire was first mentioned in
Voruna's Leverian exhibit. During The Collapse, when the
Tenno betrayed and hunted down any nearby Orokin, Executor Tuvul would attempt to perform one last Continuity ritual on himself to escape his demise. Arriving in the Circulus, Tuvul would use the profane knowledge contained within pages of Albrecht's Grimoire to imbue a bowl of Kuva with eldritch energies.
His Continuity was ultimately thwarted by Voruna who, now fused with her wolf pack, promptly tore the Executor apart. Albrecht's codex was later retrieved from the site by Drusus Leverian, who used it to aid in his telling of Voruna's story.
The Kalymos Sequence[]
The Whisper Self[]
- Main article: Whisper

A bound Whisper Grimoire
Copies of Albrecht's eldritch book may sometimes spontaneously materialize within his Laboratories. Unbinding the tome and looking too deeply into its pages will summon a dark mimic, which will then punish the reader harshly for their meddling. Once unbound, a doppelgänger of the Tenno's Operator will crawl up from the ground, and will then mimic the appearance of the Warframe.
During battle, the Whisper will use numerous abilities from various other Warframes, all while laughing gleefully. Once banished, they will drop a Melee Arcane Enhancement and an Albrecht's Notes Fragment.
Trivia[]
- A grimoire is a book of magical spells and invocations that allows the user to cast spells, create magical talismans, and summon spirits.

Update 36.0 (2024-06-18)
- Fixed held items (Datamass for example) causing visibility issues with the Grimoire equipped.
- The item will now be hidden when aiming and/or firing with the Grimoire to prevent it from blocking view.

A lot of people dont know how to use this...
This weapon is soo broken with Ivara
So Ivara's Navigator works with the alt-fire. It pauses the timer on the projectile vanishing, so you can direct a sphere of ball lightning for as long as your energy permits- and because it pauses the timer, you can actually deactivate and reactivate Navigator to reset the energy drain and then resume controlling the same orb.
It's extremely stupid and impractical, and you basically need a pure black energy color to be capable of seeing anything other than a bunch of electricity, but it's kind of fun as hell when you get the hang of it, and the damage isn't terrible. A more practical application would be to use navigator in short bursts to curve the orb around a corner and then let it continue unguided, or something, but only somewhat more practical.
But if you want to do something impractical, disorienting, and yet still more effective than it has any right to be, give it a go sometime.
Insane weapon, the alt fire is literally a nuke that obliterates everything in a 5km radius.
5km...
I need some wo'oah
"Fixed the Grimoire’s alt-fire not benefitting from Multishot Mods.
Multishot Mods will now properly increase its alt-fire’s chain depth."
Does anyone have an idea what chain depth is supposed to mean?
What chain ball? The big alt fire?
Multishot is still broken on the alt-fire. Doesn't increase the damage or amount of hits.
Multishot doesn't increase the single-target output of the alt-fire by design. Multishot instead increases the amount of targets each hit can chain to, which is what the fix is referring to. This is most easily tested against enemies that die from one hit, and prevent an additional hit from firing in the process. you can use Invocations to count the amount of enemies hit from there. Sadly can't get on to make a clip of the comparison atm, but I doubt anything has been changed from what I said above.
I see. It feels very counterintuitive based on how the alt-fire visually looks
Great support weapon once you get some of the specific mods for it. The main issue I have is the flash and BOOM every time one of the shots hits something. Had to change the energy to black to avoid being blinded when I used my Wisp, but nothing changes that super loud bang on every single shot.
On PS5 it also wiggles the trigger on every single shot, which is obnoxious as hell.
Anyone saying this book can't kill has never equipped Secondary Encumber.
Secondary Cucumber?
Since Tome Mods page uncommentable I'll write it here. You don't need to kill enemies with the book to activate Canticle mods. You need to hit the enemy with the book and hold it at the moment of death. (Gas cloud damage or electricity chain damage works.) So, the idea of these mods is that you hit the enemy with a book, and then kill them with the frame's ability. (Exalted don't work) I wish the wiki would post this information somewhere, but I have no idea where to post it...
To be clear about exalted, if you hit with a book, then hit with exalted and switched to the book before the enemy died from the effects of your exalted weapon, then the mods will work. For example, you applied the toxin status - switched to a book - the enemy died from the toxin status when the book is in your hands - canticle mods works.
To be fair even when the information is posted people will still ignore it.
Polarized 4 times just to realize it's the worst garbage they ever made
Stug: "Are you sure about this?"
Wait until you find the Ghoulsaw.
There's thing called Alternox.
This is officially the worst weapon in the game now. And all the tome mods are useless since you need to get killing blow with the book. Garbage! just remove from the game
Factually incorrect. The incantation mods don't require kills at all.
As for output, it definitely requires some work but its still decent even up to steel path with proper modding. Far from the worst secondary.
The lack of zoom, the annoying effects coming straight from the middle of the screen and the needlessly complex crosshair decoration make aiming with this thing actually painful. Not even pure black energy color fixes it. Good thing that its not worth using as actual weapon anyway!
I actually hate this weapon, lmao.
Wtf with that void gunk in the pages
I think the default mod options for duviri use rifle mods, despite the grimoire using secondary mods
A tad annoying that it doesnt work properly with Mirage. Clone hits dont charge the alt-fire and if the clone alt-fire hits an enemy before the main alt-fire? you cant get canticle stacks.
Clones not triggering the effects of the grimoire sounds intended, as the clones in general are considered their own entity. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the second part though, because as far as I tell it's working fine. Both invocations and Canticles seem to properly proc on alt-fire hits and assist kills respectively, regardless of who hits first.
Sadly I can't use this effectively because my best weapon is a secondary with a riven
Why is this stupid magic crap being allowed to infect our game?!
Isn't Eldritch generally just magic with negative connotations? They both refer to supernatural aspects of reality, it's just eldritch in particular usually refers to things that inspire general unease. I guess it could argued magic is more likely to be something that natural entities can have some vague understanding of, and in the process get more tangible use of it, but there's a fair amount of fantasy where magic is based in the eldritch, arguably including this one.
"Magic is just science we don't understand yet."
- Someone Somewhere I guess.
Tbh, it's already in the magical realm when someone can conjure enough energy to deflect bullets and explosions and etc. And also have enough energy to cover something else in fire, acid, and other matter and even encase something in solid ice with extreme precision.
What's a device that slightly resemble a book with each of its page containing void reactor or whatever power source and have enough computation power to just flex and fly around with ease and that these void-powered armor-suits can just wave their hands around it in specific patterns to condense and project excess power into a damaging projectile going to do to that already magical premise of the game?
The operators are basically psychic wizards as it is, and *this* is where you draw the line? I swear some of the comment I see on this wiki are absolutely INSANE.
If enemies that took damage from the grimoire are killed by your Warframe's abilities that do not remove the grimoire from the hand, by sentinels, moas, kubrows, kavats, specters, other tenno, or any other type of companion, the canticles mods will trigger
Here's the numbers I got from my lazy testing
1:passive charging alone goes to 0%>100% in ~45 seconds, or ~2.2% per second. Holstering does not slow down this effect.
2:Each direct hit gives ~2.2% charge.
3:There doesn't seem to be a way of increasing the hit count of a single projectile(most notably punch-through doesn't work), so the only way of increasing the charge rate is by adding Fire Rate and Multishot.
I'm much less sure about #2 because I used math to estimate the projectiles instead of actually counting them, so anyone who wants to do that(or do tests of your own) are free to confirm it.(I got 30 hits from my math)
I Tried a different build, and it similarly gave atleast 2% charge. both numbers being 2.2% seems fitting though.

Was i just supposed to learn that the alt fire is literally just the 2016-Eternal BFG on my own my goodness
Sure wish it got an element changing mechanic, similar to the Hystrix. I mean come on, it's a magical book. This should be bare minimum.
Hystrix is an interesting example considering that's it's alt-fire, but same. Personally my hope is that instead of making entirely new Tomes they give it an incarnon-style upgrade where you can choose between a selection of secondary/primary fires(with one of the secondary fires being an "incarnon form"), elements, and maybe even some additional effects. Sounds way simpler just to make more tomes though, assuming they actually do.
@Robertobear The book can't reload, they could've used that quirk as an opportunity to add something to it. Alas, a bit disappointing but oh well. Hopefully they get a bit more creative with the next Grimoire.
@Skoomaseller Could've done it by energy colour, then cycle mid-mission through a quick reload like Sirocco.
@Thrashlock Good idea too.
I do like the Grimoire, despite it's flaws.
It's working AROUND those flaws that make it shine.
... but if I had to ask for any "buff" to it?
Increase it's passive charging speed of the Alt-Fire if you add Reload Speed on there.
This allows players who want to focus on using it as a "backup" or utility weapon while still being able to use it's perks.
It won't always be "useful" as it still needs to charge, but it will be within the realm of reason to upkeep the buffs.
Otherwise? Pretty nifty weapon, sucks that all the Tome Mods are locked behind Mirror Defense-- but that's just DE being dumb as usual. They'll most likely add it elsewhere... or not, I don't know anymore.
"Having more ways to charge the alt-fire would be nice, but using mods to buff the passive recharge speed is probably one of the less interesting ways to go about it."
While I do agree that it CAN be better, you're really only stuck to either making some stat charge it faster or making it a seperate mod that either takes up another slot or conflicts with a current existing tome mod.
I don't like the idea of "super-simplification" since we have so god damn much at this point...
... but I can't really expect much else with how DE is handling things, y'know?
Fair enough. You'd need a fair amount of reload speed just to be able to keep 100% uptime on the invocations and especially canticles without use of the tome(and active charging will pretty much alwasy be faster), but if nothing else it's an excuse to fill up the slots for players who really can't be bothered to use the tome outside of it's mods.
I guess another option would be for reload speed to increase the charge speed to the active charging as well, but that's kinda pushing it towards the edge of a "must-have" stat for reliably triggering the tome mods, especially when actually using it as a secondary.
Could also make it so magazine size could let you hold additional charges, but that'd probably be even more work then either idea mentioned. Atleast tossing two orbs around and then nuking the area for khra or jahu canticle procs sounds like fun.
Lol none of you guys know what "it's" is. "It's" always means "it is", with no exception.
On a related note, though, the Grimoire is awesome. I hope we get different variations of it focused on different elements. A fireball tome with a flamethrower alt fire???
"Lol none of you guys know what "it's" is. "It's" always means "it is", with no exception."
Here's the trophy you didn't get 20 years ago, Ms. Marigold.
I'm sure the pride won't come before the fall, truly a paragon!
