- For the Helminth Charger mod, see Proboscis.
The Proboscis Cernos is an enhanced
Mutalist Cernos that launches appendages that pulls enemies in towards its zone of impact before releasing a large
Viral explosion.
Characteristics[]
- This weapon deals primarily
Viral and
Slash damage. - Impact releases appendages that stuns and pulls all enemies within 9 meters towards the impact zone.
- Appendages tick damage twice on all affected enemies before exploding.
- Ticks do 90 damage, with a distribution of 56.25%
Slash and 43.75%
Viral. - Appendages are not affected by status chance mods, such as
Rifle Aptitude. - Appendages cannot crit.
- Arrows explode in a 7 meter radius after 1.7 seconds on impacting a surface or enemy.
- Explosion has innate
Viral damage. - Explosion delay reduces likelihood of inflicting self-stagger.
- Initial hit and explosion apply status separately.
- Explosion and appendages does not need direct line of sight to deal damage and will penetrate walls.
- The explosion can benefit from
Firestorm (
Primed) and
Cautious Shot.
- Explosion has innate
- On kill, bodies will follow the arrow that killed them, damaging enemies in their path and pinning the corpse to walls.
Heavy Caliber's accuracy penalty is minimal on this weapon.- Fire rate mods apply double their bonuses.
- Innate two
polarities.

Notes[]
- Each tick and the final explosion can damage and proc status independently.
- Tendrils do not require line of sight to latch onto enemies, but cannot pull enemies through walls.
- Will not pull or damage enemies inside a Nullifier bubble. Will deal damage to the bubble on the arrow hit and on explosion, but not on pre-explosion damage ticks. This is the case whether firing outside the bubble or from within the bubble.
Thunderbolt causes the arrow to explode immediately after landing.
Firestorm only affects the radius of the final blast, and does not increase the range of appendages.- Direct hits on enemies will immobilize them during the tendril pull as they panic, including enemies with Overguard.
Tips[]
- Because of the weapon's appendages pulling enemies into a cluster, it synergizes extremely well with Warframe ability augment mods that require enemies within the said abilities' area-of-effect to trigger, such as with
Gara's
Spectrosiphon and
Hydroid's
Pilfering Swarm. - Good primary weapon choice for Specters, because of its crowd control abilities and high base damage.
- Can be used to pull enemies into
Xaku's Gaze to ensure their armor is reduced (or removed) before the explosion takes place.
Trivia[]
- A Proboscis is the elongated, tube-like mouthpart on insects like butterflies, mosquitoes, etc.

Patch History[]
Update 33.0 (2023-04-26)
- Fixed certain bosses being permanently stun locked by the Proboscis Cernos stun effect.
Update 32.0 (2022-09-07)
- Ammo Changes
We understand the power fantasy of these weapons is very popular for some, so our first approach was to keep them powerful, but limit how often they can be used by making changes to ammo pick-up.
Ammo Pickup Overrides
The following weapons now have ammo pickup overrides, meaning they gain less from picking up ammo. This mostly applies to AoE weapons, in hopes that players will become more deliberate with their aim to make the most of their Ammo pools. The following lists the specific ammo pick up overrides per weapon category.
Primary Weapon Ammo Pick Up Overrides
1 Ammo per Pick Up:
- Proboscis Cernos
Many weapons have also had their maximum ammo capacity adjusted.
Primary Weapons:
- Proboscis Cernos: From 9 to 7
- Headshot Damage Changes
During playtesting, the ammo changes alone weren’t enough to significantly change things for AoE weapons. So instead of tightening these values to be overly restrictive, we chose to address other factors that make these weapons so strong, such as headshot damage.
Our approach here is two-fold, to reduce the impact of headshots for AOE weapons, but to also make precision headshots pack a larger punch overall.
- Radial damage no longer gains extra headshot damage or triggers headshot conditions.
- This is primarily targeted at the Ignis Wraith - as a “flamethrower” weapon, it’s hard to imagine a blanket of elements being precise enough to target weak points specifically. Explosive projectiles themselves can still land headshots, so there is still a reason to aim with most weapons for maximum damage.
Hotfix 29.5.1 (2020-11-19)
- Removed Proboscis Cernos from Conclave.
Update 29.5 (2020-11-19)
- Introduced.

I need to know does galvanized aptitude work with the TENDRIL part of the shot?
Says thunderbolt causes the aoe to go off immediately, but from testing it just doesn't do anything at all, after effect explosion still goes off, and no initial explosion happens
It might be a weird build, but I think the Longbow Sharpshoot arcane might be a good idea for this bow. The weapon doesn't have the ammo to spam with Merciless Arcane at higher levels if you don't kill with a few shots, Deadhead also isn't too good because this is a status weapon and the procs can kill the target.
The longbow arcane, however, is not that hard to proc. Plus, after the first shot, enemies will be grouped together, making the headshot easier. So, primed bane + Rifle elementalist + Longbow arcane = high damage with little ramp up.
Anyone know why ancient healers appear to take no damage from the tendrils?
Anybody know if there is a limit to how many enemies the tendrils can grab?
This just a primer
Has the pull on this been nerfed?? Was doing some testing and the pull effects seems to have been drastically reduced. It doesn't even really pull anymore.
Just noticed this, but I can't find anyone talking about it. I had instances where it was pushing enemies away every time the status ticked instead of pulling.
Nice weapon but arrow mutations does not work 90% of the time
I recently discovered a bug, where the Proboscis Cernos disapears in missions. I just spawn in with my secondary equipped and can't swap to this weapon. In the menus it says I have the weapon but at the end I also don't receive any affinity for it. This happens almost every mission I have this equipped.
So nothing to do with Drahk Masters disarming your Proboscis Cernos?
@Cephalon Scientia No, it happens when I spawn in the mission and even on Corpus or Infested maps.
Does the larva like effect work on enemies with overguard?...currently not able to test it myself
It can attach to them and deal damage to them but it will not pull them
Enemies with overguard are always immune to crowd control in any form
So, this or Nataruk ?
Cinta rules now.
This weapon also seems to stun demolyst,
It does! I just did that today on the last node for Kuva Fotress, solo since noone was really doin it. And yeah it locks them down good. Need maxed Ammo Pool though, not a lot of arrows to use Amazing with Mirage and her clones, just throwin those nasty arrows all over the place.
Great for using on frames that need the extra cc, my favorite weapon is the Bramma and I use the Cernos on characters that are a little squishier like Xaku.
Lmao, someone sounds like a lot of fun
Sounds like someone's salty they didn't get top damage on Hydron
Holy shit who cares if they like the bramma. mind your own damn business
Imagine when he discover the guy is main wukong
Shooting it inside khora's cage and watching the tendrils grab all the ragdolls is really satisfying
DE being dumb as always.
Kinda baffling how kuva tonkor and envoy got a much more relaxed swing of the ammo nerf hammer while this got destroyed, while being weaker than both of them
...it only got reduced by two
Rip ammo
Yeah, rip. This was not even one of the weapons that nuked rooms in seconds. But hey, "anything that has AOE is bad," right?
Actually Probiscis Cernos can still kill enemies through walls. Has Appendagus that reach out to kill enemies & if they survive the explosion still kills them through walls, i know, i have been using this weapon before & after AoE "Nerf" People cry for anything these days
What kind of Cernos variant do you guys think we'll get next? Amalgam?
Tenet Amalgam
This is not a corpus weapon, so no tenet
Umbra, shoots multiple homing arrows per draw that resets Sentient adaptation.
Vandal
Quick question for everyone, I was just wondering what if I got a Riven with a "-Magazine Capacity" considering that bows can only do 1 shot a time. Would this decrease something in some way or is it considered to be a "blessing" to have such negative in a riven for a bow like Bramma, Proboscis Cernos and etc.(bows).
It should be a flat blessing.
-Mag on bows is a "harmless negative"
(info from like 2020 or earlier when I last followed this happening.) Negative capacity on a 1 ammo magazine weapon is a godsend because the weapon no longer has a magazine, it draws straight from the ammo pool. It never reloads, and thus bypasses reload time, because it never accessed the magazine.
Correct me if I’m wrong, of course.
I repeat that it has been years since this last was significant
I just got this weapon why does the arrow I shoot sometimes go forward and sometimes goes straight down into the ground directly in front of me? I don't have heavy caliber or anything it's just how it seems to be for me. It's a good weapon when it hits but kinda sucks since it misses basically half the shots.
Theres a bug for a lot of piercing weapons that "attach' to bodys, like bows, or the boltor for example, that makes the projectile still fly to the previous body it shot or makes the previous body it shot follow and prevents the projectile from..doing much of anything. Hence the drop down
