The Dax were an elite fighting force who served the Orokin as their soldiers, bodyguards, and commanders. They were considered formidable warriors, and they were more numerous but less effective than Tenno Warframes.
In Duviri, skeletal-like imitation Daxes appear as the primary enemy force.
Lore[]
Orokin[]
Under servitude as the Orokin Empire's elite warriors, the Dax were forced to obey whoever possessed Kuva, as it marked them as an Orokin elite.[1] They were a small core of the army, between the normal foot soldiers and the Tenno. They were relied on due to their ability and often had augments implanted in order to increase their speed and strength to superhuman levels. Isaah also had a pair of mechanical legs. All Dax uniforms were the same, with rank being indicated by their mechanical helmets which covered most of the face and widened at the top. They also wore bronze chest plates and leg armor. As for their weapons, they all wielded the
Nikana or variants of it such as the
Skiajati. Some, like Teshin, possessed the
Orvius disk. The
Quellor and
Pennant were considered standard-issue for Railjack crews during The Old War.
At one point during the Old War, an insurgency occurred on the ancient tower of Altra on Ceres and a Dax battalion was sent by the Orokin as an attempt to recapture the tower. However, the tower's defenses proved to be impenetrable to the battalion.
Gauss was then called in to quell the insurgency. With his immense speed, he blitzed through the tower and was able to reclaim it.[2] Near the end of the war, as seen in the Erra quest, a female Dax known as Varzia was seen wearing silver-colored armor instead of bronze-colored. Varzia also wielded the Orvius disk, possibly indicating that all Dax had them.
The Dax were present at the fall of the Orokin, but most of them were killed during or after it, being no real match for the Tenno. The only known survivors were Teshin and Varzia, though it is unknown how they survived. Teshin formed the Conclave in an attempt to train and preserve the fighting ability and honor of the Tenno, though his ideals often clashed with the Lotus.[3] Varzia resides in Maroo's Bazaar as a vendor, retired from fighting and selling Prime gear to the Tenno.
In the Corrupted Ancient Synthesis Imprint, a Dax named Menz was involved with fighting off the Infestation. This was just after the fall of the Orokin leaders, as the Tenno are mentioned as the betrayers. In this, he is the friend and bodyguard of an Orokin Lorist named Ontella. He commands a group of unknown bodyguards, possibly also Dax, but most likely Grineer or Corrupted, and MOAs. He ultimately beat back the Infested, but all of the other guards died.
An unnamed Dax is mentioned in the Guardsman synthesis, and he leads a group of guards around a low-level Orokin named Alarez. However, he was ambushed and cut down by a Grineer named Veytok.
Duviri[]
Instead of flesh and blood, the Dax of Duviri appear as mighty skeletal enforcers.
Enemies[]
Known Dax[]
- Teshin - Leader of the Conclave
- Varzia - Vendor at Maroo's Bazaar
Dagath - Prior to becoming a Warframe, Dagath was an unnamed Dax cavalrywoman engaging in a forbidden relationship with Orokin couple Corphel and Irilia
Excalibur Umbra - Prior to becoming a Warframe, this unnamed Dax was punished by Ballas and was forced to continually relive his memories of torture[4]- Isaah (Deceased) - The son of the Dax who would later become Excalibur Umbra
- Menz - Guard
- Sukhin (Deceased) - Cephalon Cy's crew member[5]
- Krodhi (Deceased) - Cephalon Cy's crew member
- Zada (Deceased) - Cephalon Cy's crew member
Notes[]
- Tyl Regor once referred to Teshin as a "pseudo-Tenno", though there is no visible connection between the two.
- Some Dax have the word in their name, with Teshin being known as "Teshin Dax", Menz being known as "Dax Menz", and Varzia being known as "Varzia Dax".
Trivia[]
- According to
Dagath's lore, a Dax engaging in relationships with their Orokin masters was deemed taboo and punishable by execution. - During The Duviri Paradox Demo in TennoCon 2022, there was a Dax Gladius known as Denphius who served as Dominus Thrax's "champion". However, he never appeared in the final game, and was replaced with a nameless, identical Dax that serves as a tutorial enemy for Drifter melee.

I'm going to need some exposition lore by DE explaining how Dax soldiers from hundreds if not a thousand + years ago are still alive after the fall of the Orokin empire so long ago. Orokin and their blue bodies decay with age and have to be replaced with continuity and their new body turns into their previous or something. But how come Dax soldiers like Teshin and this new one are still alive and well. As far as we've known only Orokin are capable of performing continuity. So how are these Dax soldiers still ageless after so long?
And Varzia literally answers the question as soon as you talk to her. But then it begs the question. Who popped Teshins cryopod, if they've been in cryo for...hundreds to thousands of years?
Teshin is the weird one. In his Conclave quotes, he says: "...You went into stasis, but not me. I searched the long path for redemption, for the kind of balance only The Conclave can create..." I guess he didn't go into cryo somehow?
My guess would be Teshin has abnormally slow aging, rather than downright be immortal. Remember, the Orokin bio-engineered the Dax soldiers however they pleased, so it wouldn't go past them to make some of them age slow. It wouldn't be hard to imagine a Dax soldier being 1000 years old.
Tyl Regor calls Teshin a "pseudo-tenno". Could he have been on the Zariman and gained longevity for that reasons? All the adults supposedly went mad, but maybe Teshin is some weird exception
I dont see Ordis on the list of the know DAX
Because Ordis wasn't a Dax, he was just a merc hired by the Orokin.
Speaking of which, should there be a separate page for Ordan Karris (before he became Ordis)?
Or is that not necessary?
Well, everything we know about him is just the 2 paragraphs on Ordis' page. That's not really enough to make an entire page out of, so I think redirecting Ordan Karris to Ordis#Fragments is good enough. Maybe one day we'll get some additional Ordis-before-he-was-Ordis lore (New War maybe?).
Known instances of Dax being deployed:
The reclamation of Altra Personal guard for the Executor residing in Riddah Fighting against the Infestation on Mars, accompanied by a Lorist (from the Corrupted Healer imprint)
And guarding Alarez, an Orokin low ranked citizen. I know and added it.
What about sukhin, zada and the other guy leading railjack forces? Cephalon Cy's original crew.
Also on Earth as seen in the new Awakening cinematic. Not sure where on Earth exactly (perhaps Plains of Eidolon due to the Ostron presence in the same region in the 'present').
Its probably not on plains of eidolons since we don't start off in it maybe near some ostron camp outside the plains.
