The Paracesis is Ballas' signature weapon, introduced in Update 23.10 (2018-10-12). Also known as "The Sentient Slayer", the weapon can gain additional max ranks after polarization capping at rank 40, with the additional ranks applying a damage bonus to Sentients and removing their damage resistances.
The Paracesis cannot be sold, but crafting it is not required for story purposes.

Notes[]
- Uniquely, If no stance is equipped on the Paracesis, then it will use
Tempo Royale's entire moveset instead of the normal stanceless moveset for Heavy blades.
- The weapon's max rank caps at 40 after 5 polarizations (max rank increases by 2 per Forma added).
- Additional polarizations can be added when the weapon reaches its new max rank at that polarization level.
- Each additional rank also gives Mastery Rank Experience, giving 4,000 points in total.
- Mod capacity scales with the additional ranks, and can reach a total of 90 at rank 40 with an Orokin Catalyst installed and a matching stance mod.
- Without an Orokin Catalyst, the max is 50. Combined with the five polarized mod slots required to reach that point, an Orokin Catalyst might not be required to finish modding the Paracesis.
- After polarizing a weapon, any additional mod capacity above 30 (60 with an Orokin Catalyst) will not take effect until the weapon's rank reaches 31 and above.
- Paracesis' stealth damage bonus does not increase past the usual maximum of 7, reached at rank 30.
- Each rank above 30 adds a bonus damage to Sentients.
- At rank 40, all attacks reset Sentient and Shadow Stalker resistances, and changes the Profit-Taker Orb's shield weakness.

Tips[]
- The weapon's high mod capacity allows equipping the Weapon Umbral mods
Sacrificial Pressure and
Sacrificial Steel without the need for polarization with
Umbra Forma.
Lore & History[]
The Operator follows The Man in the Wall and encounters Ballas, whose Orokin body has become Amalgamized with Sentient. Cursing Natah, he constructs the idea of the Paracesis in front of them and instructs them to take it in preparation for The New War against the Sentients. The encounter is revealed to be a vision, arming the Operator with knowledge of the weapon.
However, delivering the Paracesis to the Tenno turned out to be a ruse. After arriving with the Paracesis, Ballas reveals to have been in control of the Sentients all along; he steals the weapon and then stabs the Lotus and the Operator with it before banishing them into a Void portal.
After the Lotus and the Operator returns to confront Ballas for the final battle, with Ordis reconstructing the Paracesis, Ballas eventually manages to get the upper hand in the fight, stealing the Paracesis and stabs the Lotus again. He attempts to attack again before the Tenno jump and disarm him with a Narmer Veil, finally ending Ballas' threat for good.
Trivia[]
- Paracesis is the first weapon:
- That requires Orokin Ducats and Eidolon Shards to craft.
- That can be ranked up above 30.
- Paracesis appears to be a corruption of Paracelsus, the famed 16th-century Swiss alchemist. Some portraits of Paracelsus depict him holding a sword by the pommel which, depending on the source, was said to contain either the mythical Philosopher's Stone or the Azoth, a rumored substance that could cure any illness or dissolve any material.
- Additionally, Paracelsus was the first person to describe the creation of a Homunculus, a small, fully formed human being, via artificial means. This could allude to Ballas' creation of the Warframes and, albeit indirectly, the Sentients.
- Paracesis may also be a corruption of Paracentesis, a medical procedure where the abdomen is punctured with a hollow needle in order to sample or drain bodily fluids. If this is the case, then it would metaphorically allude to the function of the sword as a curative instrument against a "cyst" or "infection" (the Sentients).
- Paracelsus is known as the father of toxicology, with one of his most famous tenets being that the dose makes the poison, referring to how otherwise harmless chemicals may become deadly in certain doses. Combined with Ballas's rant referring to the Lotus as a venomous viper, it may be a statement on the Lotus changing from a benevolent force to malevolent now that she's taken a more personal role.
- The prefix para has a variety of meanings, including 'abnormal', 'resembling', or even from organic chemistry where it means having two substituents in opposition to each other. The suffix esis means action or process. One interpretation of the name would be the process of becoming abnormal. Another that it is the process of becoming a substituent opposed to another substituent. Either really works well for the background surrounding Ballas and the Operator getting the sword.
- In Devstream 123, [DE]Steve advised not to sell the Paracesis (despite not being possible to). On Update 27.0 (2019-12-13), the weapon would come into play in triggering the Erra quest, however the quest's activation was changed in Update 27.2 (2020-03-05) to no longer use the Paracesis.
- The Paracesis is not required to start The New War, despite initially appearing on the Warframe's back even if the player doesn't own one or did not equip it prior to starting the quest. An unranked, unmoddable Paracesis is also temporarily given to the player toward the climax of the quest.
- A Paracesis Sheath can be obtained as an Orbiter Decoration after completion of Chimera Prologue, purchased from Cephalon Simaris for
50,000. The sheath itself is not present when the Paracesis is holstered due to it being a heavy sword instead of a Nikana.

Likely as a part of the slam attack update, they will reset Sentient resistances as of now.
If you want some useful info about this sword, don't you dare to go into comment section. There's too much spoilers down there. I warned you.
MonkaS
I don't think it's a terribly gimmicky sword - it has the kuva/tenet bonus (actually, they have *its* bonus, going by implementation date...) of extra ranks with forma, and with the extra ranks it resets sentient resistances along with the faction damage - build it for crits I guess and bring it to missions where those enemies are going to be trouble otherwise.
Whatever happened to the original Paracesis? We know Ballas keeps the blade after stabbing the operator in the New War, it sort of comes back in the Duviri Paradox where a void manifestation of the Paracesis stabs the Drifter during their execution, and... that is it. It's never mentioned again--and towards the end of the New War, Ordis constructs a new Paracesis, which explains how we are able to re-acquire it.
Still, the original Paracesis is just... gone. Maybe I'm thinking too hard about this. Maybe the original Paracesis was always irrelevant. Maybe its sole purpose was to just draw a parallel between the operator and Drifter since they're both stabbed in the back in the exact same way in the New War and Duviri Paradox respectively--with the blade horizontally piercing the right side of their bodies at a shallow angle.
Thanks for the spoilers.
The page itself warns you about spoilers at the very start.
"The sheath itself is not present when the Paracesis is holstered due to it being a heavy sword instead of a Nikana."
Could be nice if we could have the sheath when holstered
Like a nice detail
Y'know, all things considered-- I feel like this sword was scammed out of it's story relevance.
Yes, it's used in the New War... but the way it's presented makes it look like it's of much more value.
Think about it:
The unusual crafting requirements of such... odd materials. Doesn't that scream required? Ducats being or Orokin origin and Orokin Cells powering nearly every Prime weapon... Eidolon Shards being a form of "catalyst" used to hone it's Sentient-Hunting nature...
The Galatine can go a bit further too. Heavy Blades are a wonderful set of Melees and the Galatine can be a VERY early addition of such to one's arsenal. It's not impossible for a player to grow attached to it (I certainly did), so to use THAT weapon to make an upgrade? Certainly not coincidence.
At the time of it's arrival, Melees were EXTREMELY strong. Swords are often a symbol of power and nobility so from a story perspective? It would only be natural to include a powerful sword as a focal point of the story, especially given the Tenno's ability to wield them.
Maybe this is just conjecture-- but it does feel like this sword was shafted from having a much bigger role in the story.
But perhaps Duviri may have an option for that... Dominus Thrax did mention something about a Knight, so who else better to wield such a blade?
We will see!
After watching duviri pardox gameplay, looks like this thing can literally interfere the multiverse of operator.
It launches right into spoilers. I just wanted to know if the weapon was required to advance the story or if i could skip crafting it.
You can skip crafting it.
After backtracking the previous events that led up to The New War in my mind, I'm left wondering as to why did Ballas give us the Paracesis? Was it all just a part of his deception into acting like the victim? I'm legitimately confused.
He doesn’t give it to us. We steal it (by void dashing (I guess void slinging now)) to it.
If you mean why he does give us the blueprint, then it's simple - he wanted us to toil and make the weapon for him. It's part the fact he had no capability to make one, unlike the tenno on their orbiter, and part the malicious satisfaction of using weapon Tenno made against them and Lotus.
So we spent 1000 ducats, an Orokin Catalyst and 5 forma just for Ballas to snatch it from us during the New War ? That's a great subversion on part of the Writers lol.
It is not. You also get it temporarily if you begin the quest without it.
Thanks for the heads up. I have only 30 ducats lol and am only just now up to NW. Can we go through it without crafting this prime part eater...? Is it really worth *1000* ducats and all those mats anyway...? 8-/
You can do it without but if you are a melee player its not really recommended.
Also its pretty worth it if you don't have another heavy weapon like gram prime or something
I did it with excal umbra and the skiajlti only so if you are a melee player forma a strong melee weapon and equip those umbral mods!!
"Synthetic Eidolon Shards can also be used to craft Paracesis."
Is this still true ?
For me it won't let me use them
No
Still shown, still not true.
Much more useful now that sentients are not immune to status effects. Sentients are generally significantly weaker now but this shines a lot more because of that adaptation removal so you can viral and slash them and when they adapt the next strike clears it.
So to reach rank 40, does it need only one or five forma?
"The weapon's max rank caps at 40 after 5 polarizations (max rank increases by 2 per Forma added)." - this page
Just got the blueprint today. This thing is gonna be a pain to craft. I mean, most of it is really whatever, but the 1000 ducats are gonna hurt.
Plus, all the forma is gonna take ages.
Shards and forma are easy, ducats are the problem.
Different things are difficult/easy for different people. What a concept.
No, some people are wrong and don't know any better. What a concept.
This argument was hilarious to read.
How the fuc* a sword can be built with coins????
Coins are metal bro
It's a 100% Genuine Orokin-Crafted design made for the Orokin elite. it's likely that the ducats are melted down and reforged into part of the blade due to the material they are made of. It does say it's Ballas's signature weapon. (also it was a super special and very unique weapon at time of release)
Here is my baby, built to ramp up but decimate:
The stance is tempo royale
Sacrifiial mods, blood rush, primed fever, zerker, condition overload and amalgam organ shatter, alongside my riven that has melee damage, cold, and status duration with a negative to grineer.
At first, it's not that much, but at around 6th combo level, you get into te only redcrit territory. Using zenurik, even if you heavy attack you don't lose all the combo. Literally designed for longer fights and facetanking.
^
Oh no!
Anyway
Thats pretty shit build
Bad build tbh
My guess is that it was made before the melee nerfs. It could have been good then.
You forgot about the Opal Skin
> Uniquely, If no stance is equipped on the Paracesis, then it will use Tempo Royale's entire moveset instead of the normal stanceless moveset for Heavy blades. (Similar to Broken War, and it's connection with Vengeful Revenant).
Gram Prime has this passive as well.
And Galatine prime
The theories on the name in this article are great and all but I still think it's a mangled pun from "pair of scissors", although there is only one "scissor". You can't unsee it once you do.
Actually, I can genuinely see how this would seem to be half a pair of scissors, from its name to its design.
The loop is where the bolt that holds the scissors go... you madlad, now i'll always know this sword as the scissor half
Pair of Scissors said quickly sounds like Paracesis , lol . Looks like Sentient stones can't beat Orokin scissors.
This is giving me Ark of the Cosmos vides from the Terraria Calamity mod, sick!
The 2 build for it :

https://overframe.gg/build/110263/paracesis/slash-viral-crit-status-combo-read-the-guide/
Really don't get why people shit on this weapon like its a Machete. Its stats are in between Gram prime and galatine prime, resets sentient damage resistance, +damage vs sentient. This is strong vs any sentient (except Eidolons).
Xoris goes Double BOOM with Volatile Quick return ;;-))
Xoris clipped the edge of something and is now flying off in the wrong direction while you stand there waiting for it to come back... dont worry, your fellow tenno who uses a gun will kill that baddie for you ;)
There is a solution to that:
Don't throw like a moron and aim better
Reeee
