Breach Surge Open a dimensional breach to overwhelm nearby enemies and cause them to release aggressive Surge sparks when damaged. Wisp may also target a Reservoir to teleport to it and double the range of the surge. Introduced in Update 25.0 (2019-05-22) |
20 % ( |

Misc:
10 % (spark chance on hit) | |||
| Subsumable to Helminth |
Info
- Wisp expends
50 energy to collapse a portal into an energy explosion that rapidly expands over a
11 / 13 / 16 / 18 meter radius area around the cast location. Enemies in direct Line of Sight of Wisp and within range are
Blinded by the surge for
7 / 9 / 12 / 16 seconds. Blinded enemies have a 10% chance when damaged or 100% chance when killed to release a surge spark in the form of a homing projectile that seeks the head of another enemy within 10 meters, dealing
Radiation damage equal to the damage dealt to the surged enemy, then amplified by a damage multiplier of
1 / 1.25 / 1.6 / 2 and
20% status chance.
- Surge sparks have 100% critical chance and a 1.5x critical multiplier. Sparks can score and benefit from headshots due to their homing properties.
- Sparks are affected by
Vigorous Swap,
Arcane Arachne, abilities such as
Eclipse and
Rift Surge augmented with
Rift Torrent.
- Sparks are not affected by
Theorem Demulcent however.
- Sparks are not affected by
- Blinded enemies are susceptible to stealth damage bonus, but are not vulnerable to melee finishers.
- Enemies with Overguard will be affected by the Breach Surge, but will not be blinded and will not release sparks. If their Overguard is removed, they will be blinded and release sparks normally.
- Surge sparks will attempt to home in on a nearby enemy during flight. Without a target to strike, surge sparks randomly impact onto a nearby surface and explode.
- Surge sparks cannot be created by a kill made by another surge spark.
- Ability Synergy:
- Casting on
Reservoirs will teleport Wisp to their location and double Breach Surge's range.
- Targeting a reservoir pod with the reticle will encircle it with Wisp's chosen energy color to indicate Breach Surge's ability to be cast on it and can be used at any range, provided there is line of sight.
- Reservoir pods can be targeted through solid surfaces provided there is vision of them (e.g. windows).
- Wisp cannot teleport to a pod while within less than 10 meters of it.
- Casting Breach Surge while
Wil-O-Wisp's clone is traveling will create a second surge around the clone.
- Casting on Reservoirs will also double the range of the cast created by the clone.
Sol Gate's solar plasma beam has a 100% chance to trigger a surge spark on every hit.
- Casting on
- Can be recast while active to blind new targets and refresh duration on previously blinded enemies in range.
- Casting Breach Surge is a full-body animation that restricts all actions except directional movement.
- Wisp visually conjures a sphere of dimensional energy and forcibly collapses it to release the energy explosion. Enemies blinded by the explosion have an orb of blinding light scorch their eyes for the duration of the debuff.
- Energy explosion, blinding light, and surge sparks are affected by Wisp's chosen Energy colors.
- Subsuming Wisp to the Helminth will offer Breach Surge and its augments to be used by other Warframes.

There seems to be a bug where Breach Surge on Gyre doesn't trigger any critical hits. It might have something to do with her passive conflicting with the base crit of subsumed abilities, but I don't have the material to test other subsumes that may be able to crit
So, has anyone tried this with Pax Seeker? like Maximize your range and just kill one guy and watch as it Pax Seeker spreads headshots and this things particle effect like crazy. Also, would it chain react to the a whole lot more projectiles just by 1 headshot kill?
Unironically the ability that is best used by other frame but not Wisp her self... lol.
This IS her best ability, so you can't say she doesn't use it well
Wisp can easily double it's range and use it as an escape by targeting her reservoirs. Doubling a modded range on an ability this strong is actually nuts. She uses breach surge very well.
Is it affected by Arcane Avenger?
What crit chance does Breach Surge use? It doesn't say anywhere.
I think it has no crit chance on its own, but it crits from doing headshots?
It adds to weapons crit chance. It helps your weapon
I was testing this just as now... thats the neat part, it seems there is no crit chance
If you hit a 7mill damage on a marked enemy it will spark that damage multiplied by ability str... if that hit is a crit, then it will bounce that massive damage onto another enemy, as radiation O_o
How does this work if subsumed? Do we need a wisp for it to work just like with Reave?
It works as listed, except it will be hard to teleport to motes. Blind enemies in range, then hitting blinded enemies trigger the sparks.
So it doesnt work why is it even subsumable. We arent bees
You don't need motes for the ability to work, teleporting to a mote just doubles the range.
It works great. it's an AOE CC
It's really a shame how weak this ability is, because it's thematically neat. The sad part is that this skill only needs one change, and it'd be competitive.
Remove the restriction that prevents surge sparks from generating surge sparks.
This would allow a single kill (or successful 10% roll on a non-lethal hit) to generate a spark, that upon hitting a nearby enemy, could generate a spark from that enemy. The damage from the original spark, which was multiplied from the originating hit, would then be multiplied further by the new spark.
The Wisp player would also have decisions to make. Nurture the single spark, casting Breach Surge at the right times to keep providing it targets to multiply on? Maybe take out a few enemies, to generate multiple sparks that cascade across a room faster. Etc.
This would all be fair, considering how many frames have abilities that you tap the button once and they just wipe the map. No interactions, no skill, just mindless near-AFK gameplay. Meanwhile this change to Breach Surge would grant more gameplay depth to Wisp, while also making Breach Surge potentially worth keeping instead of its current status as "this is what you subsume on Wisp".
The most troll post I've ever read on this wiki. Thanks LOL
This was commented July 2023, but this shit has been beyond busted siince the day wisp was released
Git gut guys and stop spreading noob info - this skill always been S tier and before nerf broken on some frames like Mag. Still awessome.
Even after the nerf, Breach Surge is still a very solid ability.
Is the spark attack affected by wall and obstacles?
It says blinded enemies are susceptible to stealth damage bonus (8x) does this mean the surge spark…
Inherits the 8x damage and multiplies it by 2x (scales on str) and also deals another 8x towards a blinded enemy (128x dmg on 100% str)?
Only inherits the initial damage from weapon/ability and then multiplies it and then is multiplied by stealth damage bonus (16x dmg on 100% str)?
Thinking about using this or pillage for steel path. I know pillage has shield gating and overshields, but this one blinds enemies and might give a better damage output. Any thoughts?
Pillage also strips armor
Stealth damage bonus only applies to melees if thats still relevant
Just got nerfed bye bye op ability
Wondering the same thing
You meaning MrWarframeGuy?
Yeah, sure. *Laughs in 1 Augment and 2 subsumable abilities*
There is a cap to how much damage damage it can do higher, than your initial hit.. Therefore helminths and such cannot take it over the cap. IF you want to do hundreds of millions or billions.. You initial hits have to be extremely high damage as well.
Is there a limit to the ammount of sparks or how often they can trigger ? it seems so but (if im not blind) its not mentioned anywhere....
try shooting CEDO secondary into grup of 20 enemies in simulacrum each being "hit" by:, glaive hit; explosion; heat+toxin+electric+slash procs, all those should be triggering the sparks (at 10% chance) yet i barely see any sparks at all from all 20 enemies ... sure the sparks would do minimal damage but still (+ they would apply radiation procs)
Breach Surge no longer picks up the buffs for the Residual Arcanes. This was patched out awhile ago. It's a shame I cannot read patch notes because I just finished farming these and my R5 Theorum Demulcent only to realize the gas surge build no longer works. You can do the same thing with a gas based status weapon so if it's any consolation, that is a workable option, but it does struggle to scale just a bit.
Finally found the ability i been craving for .... Inaros is going to have a field day with this... In Elemental Sandstorm the only thing that i lacked is Damage Multiplier. Thought about Eclipse, Larva and Gloom... But This amplifies the targets while they are lifted. Consider him as a Sevorgoth Frame , your wpn becomes part of the Frame. Amplifies the dps of the sandstorm...
Try playing a useful warframe
The man Above me isn't wrong.
Or is he
I want an augment that lets you place a pod that periodically apply breach surge, even if it drops the blind and maybe has smaller radius
I've seen an strange effect happen with BReach Surge. I've Helminth'd Lavos' Vial Rush into Wisp, and tried it with a few friends at Steel Path / Infested (Saturn Survival). I've seen damage goes up to millions when using both of them at a group of enemies, with 300% damage on Wisp. How that happens? I thought it may have been creating sparks from my friend's kora whip, but can Breach Surge proc from other players' hits?
Of course, anybody can 'activate' an enemy while under BS.
“While under BS”
Hehe
Probably the most overrated power in Warframe.
A skill that requires 2 actions to kill a limited number of enemies. If you need it to do big numbers or kill effectively in SP, I find that sad.
Imagine judging people for their choice of build in a game that is all about exploring what you enjoy most, I find that sad.
I need it to do little numbers, so far my record is -2bil, I don't think the game can go any lower.
But uh... it's a skill that requires one action to CC a room of enemies, which is okay utility, and then that CC effect can also kill other enemies as a bonus. Or you can use it for some low effort trick oneshots to enemies with dumb DR like SP Treasurers.
If someone needs it to kill effectively in SP, it just means that person hasn't farmed a strong enough weapon and mod set yet, and you would need to be exceedingly weird to find that "sad".
Its not about the sparks, altho its nice to have them ... but the CC AND the blind that allows 7x damage multi for melee, so you can do some hilarius stuff with bad/utility melee
Me likey the lil zoopy boys. :) Sparks make the serotonin go whoosh!
Why this ability is still not nerfed in the Helminth systems?
Because no one play
Do enemies, that are hit by the sparks get blinded for full, or remaining duration?
Full duration would be pretty broken as it would then infinitely repeat as long as enemies are near.
Only enemies that were initially affected by the ability cast are blinded, anyone that was not afflicted by surge will not be blinded when struck by a spark.
"Surge sparks have a critical multiplier of 1.5x, and can score critical headshots due to their homing properties." Can explain more on this sentence? The critical headshots are affected by how high the crit chance from the weapon that inflict it is it?
Also... what is Poison??? Toxin you mean?
Crit chance is 100%, regardless of what triggered it, I think.
Critical headshots are just headshots that also happen to be critical hits. Critical headshots have an additional multiplicative 2x multiplier against humanoid grineer.
So imagine the ability doing a base damage of 100.
A bodyshot would do 150, because of the 1.5x crit damage.
A headshot would do double damage, so 300. But because it is a critical headshot, it gets doubled again, for 600 total damage, meaning it deals significantly more damage than a bodyshot.
The toxin status effect is called Poison, the same way the Slash status effect is called Bleed. They just never get called by that name, because why would you when "toxin proc" is enough?
This is for Wisp with ability strength at 500 (less works to of course): breach surge on a group & then solar gate at double strength. Just wave you're beam around a bit will cause every hit to release a surge with 100% status change & the 22500 damage solar gate does x10 on every surge. Solar gate is not that useful for a 4 but this combo is rather satisfying to watch :-)
