The Acolytes are mysterious, twisted and sinister warriors that follow the Shadow Stalker, taking the appearance and abilities of different Warframes while bearing the distinctive helmet of their master. They were first introduced in the Operation: Shadow Debt event, and would make sporadic reappearances afterwards.
As of Update 29.5 (2020-11-19), Acolytes became a permanent addition to the game, making appearances in The Steel Path missions and dropping
Steel Essence.
Mechanics[]
Acolytes can only receive up to 4 stacks of any Status Effect with the exception of
Impact which can stack up to 6 times, and
Radiation only amplifies the damage the Acolyte receives from allied units and does not enable friendly fire unless those allies themselves are inflicted by the status.
The Steel Path[]
Acolytes typically spawn in any non-Archwing, non-Assassination, non-Ascension, and non-Duviri Steel Path missions once every 3-8 minutes on average. They are guaranteed to drop 2 Steel Essence, as well as one random Steel Path Arcane (
Primary Deadhead,
Primary Dexterity,
Primary Merciless,
Secondary Deadhead,
Secondary Dexterity, or
Secondary Merciless), upon defeat.
Damage Reduction[]
Acolytes possess Damage Reduction that scales based on several static metrics of the weapon and its mods. Firstly, Acolytes posses a 62.5% damage reduction on health and +50% bonus damage to their shields which apply before the below damage reduction is applied. These factors only apply once in status effect damage calculations. The damage reduction for a particular damage instance can be calculated as follows:
Tier 0 Damage is the theoretical non critical damage instance that would be seen in game if there were no static DPS limiter. Note that this factor includes the 62.5% damage reduction on health and +50% bonus damage to their shields.
As can be deduced from the above, output DPS is capped at 14600, however this limit can be bypassed with critical hits. Critical damage against acolytes have a modified critical scaling equation defined below.
"CM" is the weapon's modded critical multiplier.
Acolytes[]
- Main article: Angst
Angst is one of Shadow Stalker's acolytes, first appearing in Operation: Shadow Debt. She takes the form of a Valkyr Warframe with an Immortal Skin, wearing Stalker's helmet and the Vanquished Syandana. She battles with the
Hysteria claws.
As of Update 29.5 (2020-11-19), Angst can now spawn in The Steel Path missions.
Angst battles with theNotes[]
- Because they are dropped as mystery items in the form of a Mod item, Arcanes dropped by Acolytes in Steel Path can be sucked up and permanently destroyed by Scavenger Drones.
- Acolyte spawns take the place of regular spawns and are not timed. This means you will see them spawn more frequently with more frequent enemy spawns and less often with slow spawns, stopping entirely if normal spawns stop for any reason.
Tips[]
- As of Update 36.0 (2024-06-18), Acolytes are neutral to every element.
- Due to their damage reduction, certain types of weapons are more effective than others:
- Beam weapons such as the
Glaxion are notably weakest against them. - AOE (Area of Effect) projectiles such as the
Arca Plasmor (
Tenet Arca Plasmor) and detonated Thrown Melees perform very well against them.
- Beam weapons such as the
Trivia[]
- The Acolytes' appearances are generally a Warframe with attachments either from other Warframes or Warframe Cosmetics such as armor pieces, Syandanas, or skins, and the Stalker's helmet in lieu of their default helmets;
- Angst uses
Valkyr's body with her Immortal Skin and the Vanquished Syandana. - Malice uses
Frost Prime's body without his shoulder armor and wears bits of machinery on his arms. - Mania uses
Loki's body with his Immortal Skin as well as a Daedalus shoulder plate on his left arm. - Misery uses
Nekros' body with the Kyroptera Syandana,
Oberon's loincloth and a Daedalus chest plate as an impromptu codpiece. - Torment uses
Mesa's body with some of
Equinox's front tassels on her waist, a Naberus shoulder plate on her right arm and an Eos chest plate as an impromptu codpiece. - Violence uses
Limbo's body with Hulta shoulder plates.
- Angst uses
- Though their origins are disputed, Alad V calling them "betrayers" implies they may be Tenno themselves.
- However, Misery states, "Betrayers will die," as well as saying, "These children will not stop us," implying that he knows the Tenno's true nature. All of this pointing that the Acolytes are just as separated from the Tenno as the Stalker himself.
- When played backward, some intelligible speech can be heard in the audio taunts the Acolytes use. The messages contained are as follows:
- We are the Stalker's revenge.
- The end has come to take you, Tenno.
- You're just a puppet, Tenno.
- We fight for the Stalker. This is the end for you.
- You cannot kill what you cannot see.
- All you know is lost(?). You are nothing.
- We are Shadows. You are just a suit.
- You are nothing.
- Acolytes in Steel Path reuse dialogue from Operation: Shadow Debt which references Alad V, despite no longer having anything to do with him.

Operation: Shadow Debt Mechanics[]
Patch History[]
Update 35.1 (2024-02-20)
- Fixed only 3 Acolytes spawning in total during Steel Path Alchemy missions.
- They will now continue to spawn in intervals as they usually do in endless mission types.
Update 32.3 (2023-02-15)
- Fixed Acolyte spawns stopping indefinitely in the Steel Path if a Host Migration happens at the same moment one spawns or while one is alive.
Update 32.2 (2022-11-30)
- Fixed Acolytes not despawning after a player jumps into water volume and dies.
Hotfix 31.5.4 (2022-05-02)
- Fixed Acolytes spawning in Zariman bounties after completing a Steel Path Zariman mission beforehand.
Update 30.9 (2021-11-11)
- Fixed certain scenarios where Acolytes would spawn in Steel Path when you’re AFK.
- Fixed disarming an Acolyte with the Halikar or Halikar Wraith replacing your secondary weapon with a Rank 0 version of the Acolyte’s weapon.
Hotfix 30.5.5 (2021-07-29)
- Steel Path Change + Exploit Fixes:
For non-endless missions, most notably Sabotage, a max of 3 Acolytes will spawn and their levels will incrementally increase with every new Acolyte spawn.
- This change addresses and fixes the AFK Acolyte spawning exploit within Steel Path Sabotage missions.
- Fixed the Steel Essence 5 minute despawn timer not functioning after you’ve moved a certain distance away.
Update 30.5 (2021-07-06)
- Acolytes will now spawn more frequently during Steel Path missions, resulting in more Steel Essence being dropped overall!
- Acolytes will now be teleported to a safe location if pulled into water. This fixes Itzal’s Cosmic Crush pulling Acolytes into water volumes where they instantly died.
- Fixed Acolyte spawns becoming extremely slow or stopping altogether in specific Steel Path mission types - most commonly reproduced in Disruption or Survival.
- Acolytes will now drop 1 of 6 New Arcanes on death!
Update 30.0 (2021-04-13)
- Acolytes will no longer spawn underwater in Submersible Steel Path missions due to the water killing them instantly. They haven’t learned to swim yet.
Hotfix 29.10.5 (2021-03-24)
- Fixed Acolytes not spawning in Uranus Steel Path missions.
Hotfix 29.5.4 (2020-11-25)
- Acolytes have been given the fancy “boss Health bar” treatment!
Update 29.5 (2020-11-19)
- THE STEEL PATH: ACOLYTES JOIN THE BATTLE & MORE!
- As you play in any Steel Path mission, Acolytes will spawn and attack - defeating the Acolyte grants a guaranteed drop of 2 Steel Essence. Beware! If you get downed by an Acolyte, they'll escape and you won’t receive any Steel Essence!
- The Steel Path Acolytes now have received the same Status Effect eligibility treatment that Liches received in Update 27.3 earlier this year. This means we have slightly increased their health (scaled by squad size) as the Status Effect eligibility makes them easier to kill.
- Reduced the Melee attack damage on both Misery and Malice to avoid the more reported 1HKOs.
- In essence (ha), there is virtually no RNG with Steel Essence anymore. Acolytes will always appear in regular missions (Endlessly in Endless missions.). The time at which they choose to appear may be a bit random, but if you kill mobs, they will come!
- Please note, Acolytes won't spawn in Archwing missions on the Steel Path.
Update 29.0 (2020-08-25)
- Acolyte Mods have been redistributed into Entrati Bounties as we are sunsetting the rerunning of that event, however, it won't be the last you see of Acolytes overall. Stay tuned for more!
Hotfix 18.4.1 (2016-01-25)
- Introduced.

Why is it not mentioned anywhere that they're immune to viral procs?
They really gotta update the text on these things.
Don't even need to change the voice lines specifically, just the text.
What is Weird is when they pop up they say "our fight is not with you, Tenno" all the time for me... then why TF are they hunting me down and tryna kill me, sure got a funny way to show your fight "not being with me"..
They're just using old voicelines from when they were first introduced, when their target was Alad V and we were 'defending' him in order to deal with the Acolytes.
I assume their lore would be like the Stalker, no? the Stalker Killed his Tenno operator, which is why he hunts us to this day. I assume the Acolytes also killed their Tenno Operator, or mayhap the Stalker Freed them himself of their Enslavement.
The Man in the Wall
What's the recommended damage type for Acolytes now? Because now damage types are tied to factions but acolytes are "stalker" faction and whici isn't included in the damage table.
Does it remain the same as before or is everything neutral against them now?
What was the best damage type previously?
Previously weak to Corrosive, from memory
Pretty sure they're basically neutral now, since they have a cap of statuses DoT's will be weaker unless you apply them with a weapon that does big damage per hit, without dealing damage to them otherwise.
Viral will still apply like 200% damage vuln at 4 stacks, and their armor is capped to 2700 now, so corrosive could still be strong as well, but probably not as good, cold buffing crits & CCing them could be very useful too.
The stalker helmet doesnt fit them at all. It shouldve been resized or something. It looks so silly when a skinny warframe wears a big ass helmet
Proportion never was DE's strong side. Just look at the guandao (regular) : big fkn blade with a puny, measly, skinny shitstick for a shaft. (like most polearms actually)
It'd be real nice if they just dropped stalker's stuff, I need hate sooo bad
>Acolytes can only receive up to 4 stacks of any Status Effect
Seems like this limiting doesnt affect Emerald Archon Shard's increase of max corrosive stacks. Its sorta useless and expensive idea, but probably someone will find it useful.
A little damage breakdown for bosses.
If you decide to put 2 tau green shards (you need 2 greens for full armor strip on regular mobs anyway), corrosive limit on acolytes goes up to 10 and it allows you and your squad to deal 3.57x more damage in effect (90% dmg reduction unstripped compared to 64.3% with 10 corrosive). If a single heat proc is also present, the reduction drops to 47.4%, which adds up to a total x5.36 multiplier from the initial value. It is not as useless as you may think, considering most gun-based warframe builds would have green shards installed.
In comparison, having just 1 tau green installed, the damage reduction at 7 corrosives will drop to 79.8% so the damage increase would only be x2.02, but with heat added it will drop to 66.4%, so a x3.36.
Without any green shards you will land on 86% reduction at 4 corrosive procs (so barely x1.4 damage), further dropping to 75.4% with heat active (x2.46 damage).
Tl;dr
2 tau green: 64.3% armor effectiveness further reduced to 47.4% if heat is present.
Total damage dealt x3.57 or x5.36 if heat is also present.
1 tau green: 79.8% armor effectiveness further reduced to 66.4% if heat is present.
Total damage dealt x2.02 or x3.36 if heat is also present.
No greens: 86% armor effectiveness further reduced to 75.4% if heat is present.
Total damage dealt x1.4 or x2.46 is heat is also present.
This means having 0 greens means your squad's damage (considering only armor strip from statuses, no additional sources or other statuses such as viral) can be only increased by x2.46, adding 1 green tau shard will increase the stripping effectiveness resulting with a 36.6% overall damage increase.
2 green shards will yield an additional 59.5% damage increase compared to 1 shard (overall 117.9% damage increase compared to 0 shards).
The values are crazier if you only take corrosive into consideration and ignore heat armor reduction, but let's be honest, there will always be some priming in boss fights and heat is almost guaranteed to show up on the list. In my opinion it is a great way to ensure the squad deals more than double the damage to the target.
Good luck, Tenno.
I think this might have used the outdated armour calculations; the DR = Armour/(Armour+300) calculation is still used for Tenno armour, but now enemy armour uses a new DR = 0.9 * root(Armour/2700).
Redoing the calculations (and adding 3 tau and 2 non-tau as a bonus):
3 tau green: 13 procs, 2% armour remaining, 13% armour effectiveness, 8.7x damage
+ heat: 1% armour remaining, 9% armour effectiveness, 9.1x damage
2 tau green: 10 procs, 20% armour remaining, 40% armour effectiveness, 6x damage
+ heat: 10% armour remaining, 28% armour effectiveness, 7.2x damage
2 non-tau green: 8 procs, 32% armour remaining, 51% armour effectiveness, 4.9x damage
+ heat: 16% armour remaining, 36% armour effectiveness, 6.4x damage
1 tau green: 7 procs, 38% armour remaining, 55% armour effectiveness, 4.5x damage
+ heat: 19% armour remaining, 39% armour effectiveness, 6.1x damage
0 green: 4 procs, 56% armour remaining, 67% armour effectiveness 3.3x damage
+ heat: 28% armour remaining, 47% armour effectiveness 5.3x damage
So compared to the previous formula the partial armour stripping without shards is more effective and while the shards result in more armour being stripped than before the relative increase in damage compared to no shards is now smaller.
Hey has anyone else experienced misery spawning shadow copies of 4 other acolytes in endless steel path missions?
Misery will enter the battle alongside a retinue of enemies known as Void Shades. After losing 33% of his health Misery will get knocked over, after which he will begin summoning more Void Shades as reinforcements. Upon losing 66% of his health Misery will summon yet more reinforcements, this final group made up of Shadows of Angst and Violence.
So as of playing recently it seems that Violence has some sort of ability that pulls or warps the player to them? I saw him use both Slash dash and Ice wave but he seems to have something akin to Mag's Pull
Just the fact that Malice can make the player accidently OHKO themselves really shows how good DE is at making content then dropping and forgetting about it for the rest of eternity, almost as fun as the Knave Specter in silver grove and its 100% all damage reflection when he is connected to his clones
Just melee him
Sounds like a skill issue OP. The move is actually pretty telegraphed and audible
Imagine saying skill issue in 2024 lmao
Meleeing either of them is how you obliterate yourself, and there is no "telegraphed que" or "audio que" for their damage reflection as neither has an animation to show it is currently active. One has it on until you kill his clones (knave specter) and the other toggles it on and off at random with no indication it is on, until you start taking damage form your own attacks (Malice). The Magnetize Bubble on the other hand is very visible and you can roll to get it off of you, but thats not his only damage reflection he has access to, thats just what he starts the encounter with
Super unreliable spawn rates on these fuckers honestly, but more importantly I wish DE had bothered to make them look better. As far as half assed content in the game goes, these are right up there =/
Just played steel path e-prime, mariana, and mantle twice each to get one to spawn but not one acolyte spawned in either of the 6 solo missions I just played. Bug or what?
More info: Did an excursion on the mercury crossfire exterminate and one finally spawned but still, why none before?
I notice my leatum not dealing any damage, like none whatsoever compared to weapons with high crit. I think the evolution passive is no longer ignored by acolyte damage reduction.
Acolytes ignore the increased damage from devouring atrittion btw
Oh i thought i read that wasnt incalculated like criticals hits, ty for confirming.
I'm not on Steel Path yet (2 nodes remain) but I went to an Axi Fissure in Void on the same squad as a Legendary player, and it basically put the whole squad in a Steel Path Axi Fissure and all the enemies were Steel Path sized. (we all survived, though.) I now have 4 Steel Essence I can't use yet. anyone else encountered this?
He (host) just selected SP axi mission, thats ok and happens pretty often in random
Its suposed to give a notification to the host that you havent unlocked SP yet, and he should not be able to start it.

"JUSTICE HAS BEEN VISITED UPON THEIR FLESH!!"
Alternatively, I think the archons are a much better design than acolytes considering that archons are part sentient and part Warframe
Just making it known that if you go into a Steel Path Capture Incursion demanding that everyone wait for the acolyte, you deserve to have your account suspended! Nobody should be forced to wait over five times the length of the mission for a single enemy to show up.
Makes you wonder why they dont just solo farm acolytes on their own on a better node with how pathetically weak they are tbh.
Because they cannot succeed solo and are ignorant to the fact that survival is by far the easiest way to farm these guys.
If you want other people to play your way, go solo instead. No matter on which side of the fence you are. x)
What are they? are they tennos? they have warframe parts, stalker is a warframe, soooo, they are suppoused to be warframes that turn evil?
Its most likely other tenno who were either forgotton or thrown away by the lotus
