Ascension Day
- Main article: Leverian#Styanax
Introduction:
We all know the story of Styanax and Leviathan. How wily Aria outwitted the cult leader they called the Philanthropist and called her Warframe ally down into the very heart of his monstrous laboratories.
And no wonder; because these events did not happen in some distant epoch, in the times of the Orokin Fall, the Great Unraveling, the Age of Despots, or the Smaragdine Concord.
They happened surprisingly recently.The Philanthropist:
Its creator was dubbed 'the Philanthropist'. A Corpus renegade, he established a cult in a formerly desolate region, in a location which I have agreed to keep secret, to deter would-be looters and amateur archaeologists.
The site was never abandoned, you see, and one person's historical curiosity is another's beloved home.
With scientist, this 'Philanthropist' ensured ever-more bountiful harvests and secured himself both gratitude and worship. Legend says he would travel the System, seeking out... parentless children to... shelter... and... edcuate.
But this apparent charity concealed a darker purpose.Tharros:
Young Aria was certainly in danger, and well, she knew it. Along with her older brother Darro, she was one of the Philanthropist's Chosen.
When they came of age, they would be summoned for a ceremony called "Ascension Day," at which they would be taken to dwell with the Philanthropist in eternal paradise.
Certainly, none of those taken were ever seen again.
I do not know how Styanax became Aria's protector.
But I am certain Aria knew that when the Philanthropist came for her... her ally... would be waiting in the shadows.Leviathan:
To be merged together into a single monstrous mass.
Leviathan.
What possessed the Philanthropist to create such a... travesty... we can only speculate.
But we know that he had been studying the Infestation and that he believed Warframes to be weak and obsolete.
Perhaps he craved domination over others; perhaps he yearned to create new life. Life over which he alone... was god.
Regardless, he was too much of a coward to pilot the thing himself.
That was to be Aria's role.
But Aria called upon Styanax, who - if the ruins of the temple roof are any indication - made an explosive appearance.
Faced with the certainty of defeat, the Philanthropist clambered into Leviathan and took command of it.Aria must therefore have been in contact with Styanax long before her Ascension Day, but how?
There is a story that crops were found flattened in those fertile fields, in the shape of a lotus flower.
Not easily visible from the ground but detectable by an automated satellite.
Styanax was there to defend Aria, and defend her he did.
Colossal fist met unyielding shield again and again; with agility and endurance, the Warframe outpaced his towering foe.
As the Warframe and the monstrosity did battle, Aria saw a familiar face among the multitude.
Her brother, Darro, his blank eyes showing no sign of recognition. It awoke Darro.
From out of those thousands of fused bodies, a single mind was suddenly saying no.
Latching his remaining arms around his tormentor's throat with the very last of his life's strength, the doomed Darro distracted the Philanthropist long enough for Styanax to act.
One last act of love and protection, for his sister.
But the Warframe hesitated. It seems he understood the importance of Darro's rebellion.
If one mind could turn upon its master... why not all of them?
With but a gesture, he gave the captive minds their freedom.
Suddenly awakened and aware of their hellish plight, the damned townspeople tore at the Philanthropist's exposed face, the Leviathan's body coming apart as arms broke free from the mass, clawing for revenge.
Together they dragged the screaming Philanthropist down, rending and tearing.
In that moment, we can be assured the Philanthropist knew the depth of his failure.
His defeat.
Without worshipers, a god... is nothing.
And Styanax delivered the final, merciful stroke.Fear, uncertainty, and above all, unquestioned habit had allowed a monster to flourish.
Aria took over the cult and made it a community instead.
They still thrive to this day. Or so it is claimed.
Styanax is the story's hero, but it was Aria's courage that summoned him.
All revolutions begin when once voice dares to say: "I will not". Somehow, across the dark reaches, Styanax saw that courage burning bright and swore... it would not stand alone.
I would visit Aria's temple myself, but I am indisposed at present... a... long-standing condition.
All donations are, of course, appreciated.
Two war orphans, Aria and her older brother Darro, were saved by the Philanthropist from an Infested Corpus ship, taking them to live in his cult. They would both live within this paradise, until they would come of age and join the Philanthropist's Chosen for a ceremony he called 'Ascension Day'. Between the siblings, Darro was chosen first, with Aria being chosen 5 years later.
During this time, Aria would then come into contact with Styanax through unclear means, presumably flattening a large field of crops into the shape of lotus which could only be seen from space. Whatever the reason, Styanax became Aria's unseen defender, and gifted her a rescue beacon.
When Aria's Ascension Day arrives, the Philanthropist brings her to his laboratory, revealing to be producing a hulking, monstrous Infested named Leviathan, built from the experimented bodies of the other Chosen, and was planning to use Aria as its driving force.
In defiance, Aria reveals her beacon and presses it, summoning Styanax. Faced with near defeat, the Philanthropist chose to pilot Leviathan himself, and implanted himself atop its head. As Infested flesh met Tenno shield, Aria saw the face of Darro among the Leviathan's mass. With a single desperate scream, Aria awakens her brother. Darro, now fully aware. He clamored to where the Philanthropist was piloting, and with a single remaining arm, held the tyrant by his throat.
Thanks to the distraction, Styanax Rallies the rest of the afflicted Chosen, causing them all to claw their way up the Philanthropist, drowning him in a tide of flesh. Styanax then strikes the final blow, annihilating the Leviathan with a rain of spears from his
Final Stand.
In the aftermath, Aria offers to return the beacon, but Styanax simply closes her hand and departs.
Notes
Tips
- Given Styanax's passive scales with the amount of shields he has (even overshields), it is recommended to give him mods that grant him extra shields and/or faster shield recharge. It is also for this reason that he is a very good candidate for the Augur mod set.
Trivia
- Styanax is the 50th unique Warframe to be released.
- Styanax was first revealed in TennoCon 2022's TennoLive segment in his own animated short teaser. His gameplay showcase followed suit in Devstream 163.
- After
Ivara's statue promotional animated short, Styanax is the first Warframe to receive a full official featurette in anime artstyle titled Ascension Day, a collaboration with Passion Paris studio.
- After
- His name likely draws inspiration from the Greek mythological character Astyanax, a nickname given by the people of Troy to Scamandrius, son of Hector the crown prince of Troy and princess Andromache of Cilician Thebe. The name itself means "Ruler of the City" from Άστυ, city and Άναξ, ruler or king.
- His Shield Tharros is likely named after the Greek word for bravery, θάρρος.
- Styanax is a genus of beetles in the family Weevils.
- Styanax's Hoplite theme stems from his early concept art created by Keith Thompson. Inspired by the ancient Grecian soldiers, militia wielders of spear and shield, Styanax's finalized abilities depict him more as a Peltast, a crescent shield-bearing javelineer.
- His movement audio such as footsteps sport armor-clanking sounds, paying homage to the armored warriors of old.
- Prior to Hotfix 32.0.3 (2022-09-14) and Hotfix 32.0.5 (2022-09-15), Styanax's other and Helminth abilities could be cast during
Final Stand, and Final Stand could be recast without needing to touch the ground, allowing the player to remain airborne almost indefinitely with
Rally Point's shield and energy regeneration and ascend higher and higher into the air when modded for Ability Efficiency and combined with
Axios Javelin's jump. This interaction was patched out as it was an unintended function that carried over to Styanax's release, while also breaking many animations.
Reference
Styanax's weapon Critical Chance bonus increases by 1% per 40 Shield points, based on his current total including Overshields. Passive bonus is doubled on Speargun primary Weapons, such as Styanax's signature
Afentis,
Scourge (
Prime),
Ferrox (
Tenet), and
Javlok.
- Passive bonus value is displayed as a Buff icon called Hoplite beside Styanax's hitpoint indicators.
- Critical chance bonus percentage changes in real time to reflect Styanax's shield pool.
- Critical chance bonus stacks additively with Mods.
- While Styanax has a Speargun equipped, the Hoplite buff will display the increased critical value, even when holding another weapon.

- Styanax expends
15 energy to hurl a single Axios Javelin in an arcing trajectory toward the reticle. Axios travels at high speed for
50 meters before dissipating, while impaling the first enemy it directly hits to carry it along. The impaled enemy and any enemies in Axios' flight path are inflicted
500 / 750 / 1,000 / 1,250
Puncture damage and Knockdown. The impaled enemy remains pinned by Axios Javelin for
8 seconds.
- Axios Javelin has target detection around the reticle, causing the thrown javelin to attempt to home into the nearest enemy.
- The Javelin's destination is instantly set upon activating the ability, rather than where it would naturally travel when thrown where aimed. It follows this course regardless of any movement or aiming during the throwing animation, even if you move behind an obstruction that should block its set course.
- If cast in the air, Styanax hops up 1 meter before he throws the javelin.
- The javelin benefits from generic increases to weapon base damage, such as from
Arcane Arachne,
Holster Amp, and
Vigorous Swap, but not from weapon class specific increases like
Steel Charge or
Rifle Amp.
- If Axios impales an enemy and it impacts a surface, the javelin explodes to inflict
500 / 750 / 1,000 / 1,250
Blast damage to all enemies in a
15 meter radius. Simultaneously, a vortex implosion lasting for 2 seconds, pulls all enemies within sight detection range into its center.
- Can be recast with brief to no delay in-between, allowing for rapid-fire javelin throws.
- Casting Axios Javelin is a full-body animation that restricts Styanax's grounded movement and interrupts other actions, as well as displacing his position vertically when midair.
Augment

- Styanax expends
25 energy to sweep his shield Tharros before him to release a horizontal fan of 9 shield projections, which travels a distance of
9 meters toward the reticle, bashing away enemies within a 135 degrees horizontal spread and 160 degrees vertical spread. With a heavy shove, Styanax also knocks back enemies within a 2.5 meter radius around him.
- According to the actual test, 9 shield projectiles are only visual effects. The real hit range is a cone shape with a horizontal direction of about 135° and a vertical direction of about 160°. The radius is the skill range.
- Each shield projectile is 15° apart horizontally. The strike edge overlaps with the shield projectile on the right side and extends an additional 15° on the left side.
- Shield projections possess infinite Punch Through, hitting enemies along their flight path until they fade away at maximum distance.
- According to the actual test, 9 shield projectiles are only visual effects. The real hit range is a cone shape with a horizontal direction of about 135° and a vertical direction of about 160°. The radius is the skill range.
- Styanax's shove and the shield projections inflict pushback for 5 meters, stun for 2 seconds prompting melee Finisher (default X ),
50% Armor and Shields permanent defense reduction, and
250 / 500 / 750 / 1,000
Impact damage on enemies. For each enemy struck, Styanax restores
50 / 65 / 80 / 100 Health points.
- Defenses are fully removed at 200% Ability Strength.
- Shield strip removes a percentage of the current maximum value, as such it has diminishing returns on subsequent casts against the same enemies. Armor strip, however, is a percentage of an enemy's total, requiring only two casts at base strength to fully strip.
- Defense reduction, Health restore, and damage affect enemies protected by Overguard, but pushback does not, nor are they opened to Finishers.
- Defenses are fully removed at 200% Ability Strength.
- Casting Tharros Strike is a full-body animation that interrupts Styanax's grounded movement and other actions.
- Subsuming Styanax to the Helminth will offer Tharros Strike and its augments to be used by other Warframes.
Tips & Tricks
- With one player using
Corrosive Projection, 100% armor strip can be achieved at 164% Ability Strength.
- Tharros Strike opens enemies to finishers briefly. Taking advantage of this requires using the ability at point blank or enemies pinned against a wall.
Axios Javelin's vortex assists Tharros Strike in en-masse enemy defense reduction and rapid health recovery for Styanax.
Rally Point taunts enemies to aggressively approach Styanax, potentially grouping inside Tharros Strike's area of effect. Energy regen recovers Tharros Strike's low cost quickly. Tharros Strike's defense reduction permanently cripples enemies for Styanax and rallied allies to kill them for shield recovery.
Final Stand's
Slash and
Blast damage effectiveness are enhanced by Tharros Strike's defense reduction.

3 Energy points regeneration per second, with each kill or assisted kill by rallied allies restoring their personal Shield pool by
20 / 30 / 40 / 50 shield points, which overflow into Overshields. Once cast, Rally Point persists on affected allies, lasting for
30 seconds.
- The amount of energy regenerated and shields restored are affected by Ability Strength.
- Energy regeneration does not occur during channeled abilities.
- If Styanax himself is the caster, shields per kill and energy regen values are displayed as an ability Buff icon beside Styanax's hitpoint indicators.
- Rally Point from another Styanax displays only the shields per kill and remaining duration timer on the ability buff icon.
- When Rally Point expires, a war-time drumbeat sound effect plays to alert all rallied players.
- Can be recast while active to refresh duration to full and buff new allies in range.
- If there are multiple Styanax players in a squad, the highest buff value will take effect and cannot be overriden by lower valued buffs, unless the timer has less than 10 seconds remaining.
- Casting Rally Point is a full-body animation that interrupts Styanax's grounded movement and other actions.
- When cast while airborne, it is a one-handed animation that still allows shooting and movement.
- Styanax and rallied allies visually pulse with energy lines, while enveloped by a shield-like form-fitting barrier. When a direct kill or kill assist occurs on an enemy by a rallied ally, a wisp of Void energy bursts from the enemy and rapidly flies to that ally to replenish shields.
- Void wisps are affected by the chosen energy colors on each individual rallied ally.
- Multiple Void wisps can appear from an enemy when kill-assisted by multiple rallied allies.
Tips & Tricks
- Rally Point builds up Styanax's shields into Overshields to fuel his passive Hoplite weapon Critical Chance bonus.
- Energy regen recovers the low costs of
Axios Javelin and
Tharros Strike quickly.
- Axios Javelin's vortex assists in grouping enemies and Tharros Strike's defense reduction cripples them for rapid shield recovery to Styanax and rallied allies on kills/assists.
Final Stand's javelin barrage rapidly inflicts damage to secure kills/assists to strengthen Styanax's shields.

Info
- Styanax expends
100 energy as he rises into the air 3 meters high from the ground, summoning an army of shadow warriors aligned in a horizontal concave curve around him. Styanax and his ethereal shadows continuously hurl a volley of
30 Axios Javelins, thrown at a fire rate of 12 javelins per second over the course of
2.5 seconds toward the reticle location. Each javelin inflicts
1,000 / 1,100 / 1,300 / 1,500
Slash damage on direct hit, then explodes on impact with a surface for
1,000 / 1,100 / 1,300 / 1,500
Blast damage with a guaranteed
Bleed proc in a
6 meter sight detection radius.
- Styanax can float horizontally and reorient his reticle aim during this ability.
- Movement speed while floating is affected by Sprint Speed.
- Styanax is considered airborne during Final Stand, allowing airborne conditional mods such as
Aviator to trigger.
- If Styanax floats against a wall with an opening below it, he will automatically descend.
- If cast in midair, Styanax does not rise higher than his current elevation.
- The volley of javelins and throws per second determine Styanax's total airtime. Number of ethereal clones is affected by the volley count.
- The javelins benefit from generic increases to weapon base damage, such as from
Arcane Arachne,
Holster Amp, and
Vigorous Swap, but not from weapon class specific increases like
Steel Charge or
Rifle Amp.
- Casting Final Stand is a full-body animation that vertically displaces Styanax if cast from the ground. Movement is allowed during the ability animation but interrupts other actions.
- Other abilities cannot be cast during Final Stand.
- Cast speed increases only affect the startup animation of Final Stand, and therefore have minimal effect on the overall cast time. (For example,
Natural Talent reduces the cast time by only 0.25 seconds.)
- Final Stand cannot be recast in midair, requiring Styanax to land in order to reuse the ability.
Augment
- Main article: Intrepid Stand
Intrepid Stand is a Warframe Augment Mod for Styanax that grants Overguard for himself and allies in Affinity Range upon striking enemies with

Hotfix 36.1.3 (2024-08-27)
- Updated the position of the Ares Helmet on Styanax so that it is rotated slightly lower at the Artist’s request.
- This also fixes gaps in the mesh from appearing.
Update 36.0 (2024-06-18)
- Line Of Sight Improvements
As a continuation of our efforts to improve LOS systems within Warframe, which have been ongoing since Dante Unbound, we’ve made further strides towards improving how we handle these checks.
From a technical standpoint, we’ve improved the consistency and performance of the underlying LOS systems within the game by handling how we detect unrendered targets, in addition to improvements we’ve made in recent hotfixes.
Abilities that use LOS checks already have been updated to this improved technology! Additionally, with these improvements, we can now easily shift over any Warframe Ability that relies on LOS checks to be seamlessly migrated to this new, more accurate system, meaning we’re able to act faster on any outlying offenders that may arise.
To name a few Warframe abilities that benefit from this with Jade Shadows:
- Styanax's Axios Javelin (Vortex)
- FIXES
- Fixed Styanax’s Final Stand interfering with the extraction cinematic.
- Fixed Primary Color channel breaking when navigating from Nezha Empyrean Skin to the Styanax Tonatiuh Skin and back.
- Made fixes towards the green tint in the Styanax’s Tonatiuh Skin lingering while customizing colors.
Hotfix 35.5.6 (2024-04-10)
- Fixed Styanax’s Tharros Strike infused onto another Warframe via Helminth not having any visible projectiles.
Update 35.5 (2024-03-27)

Update 34.0 (2023-10-18)
- Base vs Final Stats in Modding - Health / Energy / Shield / Armor Stat Overhaul
If you’ve spent any time invested in the deeper nuances of Modding, you may be familiar with “Warframe Math” - math that upon first glance doesn’t really make sense, but once you learn the inner workings of the game, it all comes together. While we can appreciate the value that complex systems offer to a certain subsect of players, there are other aspects of the game that should have clear and understandable outcomes. Namely: Shield, Health, Energy, and Armor Modding.
Pop quiz: what is 300 + 440%? If you answered 740, you may just be an Excalibur player.
Vitality (+440% Heath), Redirection (+440% Shields), Flow (+150% Energy), and Steel Fiber (+110% Armor) come with large modifier values that don’t seem to match their outcome in-game. This is because these Mods apply their multiplier to the base stats of the Warframe - i.e., the stats you have at Rank 0. In the Excalibur example, a Rank 30 Excalibur’s Health stat of 300 earns an additional 440 Health from max rank Vitality (+440% Heath) since it applies to his base rank Health stat of 100, resulting in 740 total health.
In this update, we have removed this obfuscation by having Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor Mods apply to the stats of Warframes at their current rank. Continuing our Excalibur example, instead of Vitality always applying to Excalibur’s base rank 100 Health, it would apply to his Health stat based on his rank - namely, the stat you can actually see in your Arsenal. If your Excalibur were Rank 30, his Health stat would be 300, which means Vitality’s multiplier would be calculated off of 300.
With previous Health and Mod values, additional adjustments are needed to make this revision work while maintaining game balance. By only changing where the multiplier applies, a Rank 30 Excalibur would receive an extra 1,320 Health from max rank Vitality, resulting in a total health stat of 1,600. This outcome is a significant buff, which is not the intention of this system change.
To remedy this, we approached this problem in two ways:
1 - We reduced the overall multiplier for Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor Mods.
Since these now affect Max Rank Warframe stats, these Mods need to scale differently to maintain the status quo. Additionally, we wanted these new values to be as clear and understandable to all players as possible! Here are a few examples of these value changes:
- Vitality: Reduced from +440% to +100% Health
- Redirection: Reduced from +440% to +100% Shield Capacity
- Steel Fiber: Reduced from +110% to +100% Armor
- Flow: Reduced from +150% to +100% Energy Max
Note: These are not all of the Mods affected by this change. We share the comprehensive list further down in this section of the update notes.
Doing some quick math, this means that a Rank 30 Excalibur (300 Health) with a reworked Vitality Mod (+100% Health, applied to the final Health stat) would receive 300 extra Health, for a total of 600. That, in contrast, is a nerf, which we also don’t want to do.
So, our next step:
2 - We adjusted Warframe Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor values to keep the end result of the revised Mods as close to the original values as possible.
With this change, Excalibur’s Rank 30 Health stat is 370. With +100% Health from a max Vitality Mod, his resulting Health stat would be 740, which matches what it was originally.
While this path to the same result may seem a little complicated, the outcome matches our intention: we want players to be able to look at their Health, Shield, and Armor Mods, and be able to understand how they affect the stats they see in their Arsenal.
In addition to everything above, we also increased the base stat values for Warframes so that these revised Mods offer similar value for lower-ranked Frames. To do so, we reduced the amount of Health/Shield/Energy that Warframes earn per rank in half, and transferred the sum of that value to their base stats.
For Armor, this is the one stat that does not increase with your Warframe’s level (with some exceptions). Armor values across the board have been slightly increased to compensate for the Mod changes.
Not to beat a dead Kaithe, but Mods will now be applying to the Max Rank stat instead of the Base Rank. You may look at these numbers and think “nerf” or “buff” depending, but the outcome is that total Modded values are the same, if not a little higher in some cases.
Warframe Stat Changes:
STYANAX Health: Base Rank - 270 (from 100) / Max Rank - 370 (from 300) Shields: Base Rank - 825 (from 250) / Max Rank - 925 (from 750) Armor: Base Rank - 265 (from 250)
Energy: Base Rank - 175 (from 150) / Max Rank - 225 (from 225)
