A Genetic Code Template is a medium used for saving genetic information of a living companion. Pet imprints can be traded or used for a combined incubation.
Imprints are primarily used as "parents" for a baby pet. By applying two Genetic Code Templates before the incubation phase, the traits of each imprint will be passed onto the new Kubrow or Kavat.
Players can carry up to a maximum of 200 stored imprints.
Market and Manufacturing[]
The blueprint can be bought for 50,000 and is re-usable indefinitely on all platforms.
A crafted Genetic Code Template can also be bought on the Market for 15.

Imprinting Genetic Information[]

A Genetic Code Template with an imprint
When constructed, Genetic Code Templates are empty. Tenno can use them to store the genetic information of an active pet anytime after it has matured. Imprinting a single genetic code for a pet will take 1.5 hours, but can be rushed for
10. Up to three imprints can be taken of a single Kavat, and up to two of a single Kubrow. Note that your pet will be unusable while imprinting them, but are usable as normal after the process is over and the finished imprint has been claimed from the incubator.
Stored Information[]
The traits mentioned below are stored by a Genetic Code template, and will be passed on to a pet when used.[1] Bear in mind that the information stored will only refer to the pet's original appearance, free of any changes to its coat colors or pattern.

Template Identification[]
A Genetic Code Template contains the name of the pet it was created from and an icon indicating which type of pet it is.
Huras Kubrow
Prowling stance. Reflecting that the Huras is orientated around stalking.
Raksa Kubrow
Sitting in a loyal stoic pose. Reflecting Raksa specialty of protecting their master.
Sahasa Kubrow
Digging pose. Indicating Sahasa's role in digging up items
Sunika Kubrow
Aggresive pouncing pose. Indicating Sunika's role as an attack Kubrow.
Chesa Kubrow
Retrieving pose. Indicating Chesa's trait of fetching items.
Smeeta Kavat
Dashing while turning invisible. Indicating Smeeta's specialty of trickery.
Adarza Kavat
Facing a reflection of itself. Indicating Adarza's specialty of reflection.
Vasca Kavat
Facing forward with its body lowered and tail up.
When Breeding A New Pet[]
- Go to the Incubator and choose the Breeding tab.
- Click the Begin Incubation button.
- Click on the empty imprint slots and add the desired imprints. You must enter two imprints; you cannot begin a combined incubation with only one imprint. You can use imprints from two male or two female specimens, or even two of the same companion; two imprints from different Kubrows or Kavats can be chosen for a chance to combine traits. Kubrow imprints cannot be used for breeding Kavats and vice versa.
- Click Begin A Combined Incubation and wait 48 hours (Nutrio Incubator Upgrade Segment reduces this to 24 hours) for your new pet, or rush the incubation for
15.
Trivia[]
- The screen of the template bears similarities to the results of a Gel electrophoresis test, which is appropriate given the template's function.
- Prior to Hotfix 14.0.5 (2014-07-21), imprints weren't a surefire way to determine the result of a Kubrow as recessive genes were taken into account. This has since been changed to remove recessive genes, ensuring the imprints contain all the used information.
- Also, prior to 14.0.5, there was a feature known as a Kubrow Genetic Scrambler, which randomized the Kubrow's genes in exchange for Platinum, and was removed due to a serious resemblance to a slot machine, something that went against everything DE wanted.
- With the initial launch of Specters of the Rail, the blueprint was unavailable in the Market. This was later corrected in Hotfix 6.
- From Update: Specters of the Rail 0.0 (2016-07-08) until Hotfix: Specters of the Rail 0.10 (2016-07-15), it was possible to cross-breed Kavats with Kubrows by combining a Kubrow Genetic Code Template with a Kavat Genetic Code Template, resulting in Kubrows or Kavats that, while otherwise normal, had various visual glitches such as incorrect fur textures or malformed models. Players were allowed to keep the hybrids after Hotfix 10 was deployed, but any Genetic Code Templates from them cannot be used for further breeding.
- Imprints can be traded between players.
Patch History[]
Update 34.0 (2023-10-18)
- Updated the Imprints error message to be more accurate:
- Was: "Cannot make imprints of pets when they have not yet matured. Wait for active pet to become an adult before creating imprint."
- Now: "Cannot make imprints of pets when they have not yet matured. Mature to an adult before creating imprint."
Update 31.5 (2022-04-27)
- Added a cap of 200 for Companion Imprints. Imprints can also be sold from Inventory for Credits.
- The cap was added to prevent the game from crashing due to having a large amount of Imprints. If you have over 200 Imprints, you will be required to sell Imprints through your Inventory before creating new Imprints.
- Fixed crash related to the ‘Browse Genetic Imprints’ screen.
Update 26.0 (2019-10-31)
- Each Kavat can now give you 3 Imprints (up from 2). This will apply to all Kavats that predate this update. If you’ve already used 2, you'll find 1 more ready to go!

"Up to three imprints can be taken of a single Kubrow or Kavat" is false. Only Kavats can have 3 imprints. Kubrows only have 2
^
That's odd, the wiki states "You must enter two imprints; you cannot begin a combined incubation with only one imprint", but the game clearly states otherwise.
Your image proves that the wiki is still accurate. The UI says that "1 Imprints required to incubate" for the combined incubation so you still need two imprints for the combined incubation.
Can you link imprints
Can i make an adarza kavat with an adarza code and a vasca code? (not a code with the virus. its from a tamed vasca kavat)
You can. Tried it the other day and got a Vasca with an Adarza tail.
I've held onto a smeeta kavat that has the vasca pattern for a while. It used to have a weird glitch with the fur pattern from Baro but I messed up and changed something and can't get it to go back to it. I think they moved whatever that fur pattern is off of kavats so now I can't put it back on.
I think Titania in razorwing or Titania's 1 is bugged with scanning kavats. I scanned like 12 with 0 imprints, then i used no abilities and got one imprint
12 is a very small sample size, relatively speaking. It's possible (and perhaps likely) that you were simply unlucky.
You can breed predasites and vulps now, you should add that to the wiki
you can what
No you cannot
Can make imprint, yes. but y it can't breed? and what a point to imprint them then?
I don't understand what's being missed. Look at "Kubrow breeding" in your incubator, attach two predisite/vulpaphyla imprints, (required) have an egg/10 scans, (also required), and blammo-presto-changeo you can create a companion. It's not breeding exactly, but you end up with a new pet. The different breeds can't be crossed, but the resistances within can, resulting in a companion resistant to several damage types. (search breeding guide, >reddit iirc, it's complicated)
Also, prior to 14.0.5, there was a feature known as a Kubrow Genetic Scrambler, which randomized the Kubrow's genes in exchange for Platinum, and was removed due to a serious resemblance to a slot machine, something that went against everything DE wanted.
Rivens: Am I a joke to you?
I mean kuva cannot be directly bought with real money but plats can be
^
can you buy rivens from market though
You can buy rivens from other players with plat but still costs kuva to reroll them, not plat.

Well that's a lie and a half if I ever saw one, don't even OWN the blueprint and I'm at 2/3 left.
It would be nice and informational if a volunteer adds the 10 Genetic Code scans for Kavat breeding and the egg for Kubrow breeding as a necessity.
I'm sitting here now with two vasca imprints and had no clue i still need more genetic information to finally get 1 breed. ...umph!
I'm sitting here now with two Vasca virus imprints, which I took from a Vulpaphyla companion, but I cannot use them to breed a Vasca Kavat. The imprints show up in the imprint browser and even have a Vasca model, but cannot be used for breeding! The information that Vulpaphylas cannot be used as a virus carrier needs to be stated in this article imho. Or anywhere else, where other unlucky people like me can find it beforehand.
Hmm. Vulpaphyla - Kavat. Not even the same species. Has common sense left the building?
Are they seriously just for the color and NOT for the type? i just bought 2 sahasa imprints for 40p and got a raksa kubrow.. are you for real DE?
It says right here on the page that is is for type as well, but if I remember correctly there is some amount of variance, even when using templates. May want to get a second opinion on that
Yeah guess the imprints just raise the chance of getting what you whant, bought 2 smeeta kavat imprints for 25 plat and got adarza with smeeta appearence with adarza tail
Nonsense at all, like if you breed a monkey with gorilla mom and gorilla dad, you have a chance to get orangutan baby?
What in the ass did I just read?
Okay so everytime I read about these or try and figure them out it feels to go over my head. Like they don't really offer much. Is that a safe assumption?
Page states you can buy the blueprint for this for 50K credits, but it's not available in the market. Can only buy fully crafted one for platinum. Was this item removed from the game?
U can buy the "template" blueprint, basically the empty imprints lel, look for "template" in market :D not imprint
It says it costs plat if you hover over it, but if you click it, you can buy it with credits
How does someone use a Drahk Kubrow Pattern?? I can't find anything in wiki on this item?
Drahk is not a natural kubrow pattern, hence it hasn't been included in this article. Try reading Kubrow Cosmetics instead
How does one imprint the template? doesnt say anywhere...
Have at least one Genetic Template crafted. Then, walk up to your incubator with a pet active (out of stasis), switch to the "Genetic Tools" tab, and hit "Imprint <kubrow name>"
u26- old blood allows you to get vampire kavat (vasca) imprints by infecting your kavat on the plains of eidolon by getting them bit and then imprinting them
After use, will the imprints disapear or will they stay in my inventory so i can use them again?
The Imprints will be consumed upon use and you need 2 of them to breed the pet with an imprint.
Can you use two imprints from the same pet in an incubation process or does it have to be one male one female?
Any 2 imprints
I cant see this on the page so im gonna ask it here, how do you actually use the blank imprints because i have a kubrow out of stasis with a blank imprint but i cant see any way to make an imprint of it in the incubator
Go to the genetic tools with the pet out of stasis and it should be there
Okay, so im doing the kavat for the 1st time. Someone in my clan gave me 2 smeeta imprints. When i browse imprints i can see it, but how do i use it. I need 10 imprints right? So ive gone to orikin delerict and scanned 2 kavats. That shows but the 2smeeta dont
hi,
to craft a Kavat you need 10 Kavat Genetic Code (not imprints) which are indeed collected by scanning feral kavats in the derelict. however each scan has only 25% chance to give a genetic code, so you will need a lot more than 10 scans to get all the Kavat genetic codes you need
when you have 10 genetic code you can breed a Kavat. If you wish you can use the imprints from your clanmate to skew up its features
note : if it is your first you may also neeed to craft the Orbiter Segments called Kavat Incubator Upgrade which also requires 10 Kavat genetic codes to craft...
Does the pet's gender gets passed on as well?
No
I think so. I recloned one kavat over and over with 2 of its own imprints and it was the same gender every time.
