Self-hosted family GPS?

I have family members with mostly Android but a couple iOS, and would like to explore a self-hosted tracking solution.

Looking for near real-time tracking. Don't need historical, just "now".

Appreciate it. Looks like I'll be trying it soon.

Hauk works great, and it's super simple to set up, but I believe it's only android.

I tried looking for a comparison, but didn't have much luck.

Have you tried both?

Another possibility is Nextcloud with https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/phonetrack plugin, you can selfhost everything as well.

Interesting, especially because I already host Nextcloud. But it looks like this doesn't use a native app on the phone side that continuously updates?

You could use home assistant for this. It's not a GPS tracker solution in entirety, bit does have that ability as well as being able to send notifications, control devices etc

Interesting. I was planning on setting that up to replace SmartThings.

Hauk

Why do you want to track your family? I wouldn't let anyone install such an app on my phone xD

We don't live in a first world country. It's for safety.

OP already explained their reason but GPS tracking is also useful for home automation.
