- For the Warframe, see Wisp.
Cetus Wisps are odd beings found hovering on the edge of most bodies of water in the Plains of Eidolon, and are also purchasable from The Quills for
2,000 (available at Rank 5 - Architect), or during Operation: Plague Star from Operational Supply for
750 +
1,500 .
Behavior[]
Cetus Wisps are generally found on the banks of Gara Toht Lake and the smaller pools of landlocked water. They will be deposited in the player's inventory should the player manage to touch it.
Identified more as a loot pickup than a non-hostile NPC, they are widely used as a resource for crafting. Wisps are typically used as a component in Amp and Zaw components, but are also used in
Gara's chassis and
Revenant's systems.

Blueprints Requiring Cetus Wisps[]
Tips[]

Cetus Wisp Spawn Locations (incomplete)

Cetus Wisp optimal farming route (optimised using genetic algorithm)
- Wisp spawn locations are shared between players. They can be picked up and marked by other players.
- Wisps show up as loot on the Plains. Therefore,
Loot Detector,
Animal Instinct, and
Thief's Wit can be used to identify them, greatly reducing time used for searching. - Wisps are not highlighted by Codex or Synthesis Scanners.
Vacuum and
Greedy Pull will not pick them up and players must manually collect the Wisp, given that Wisps also ignores the 3-meter universal vacuum.- Wisps can be picked up while in Archwing. Itzal allows players to quickly skim fly around using
Cosmic Crush ability to suck up wisps. Bring a
Loot Detector or a companion with
Animal Instinct to see them in the Archwing (
Thief's Wit won't work). - Wisps can be picked up by
Titania while in
Razorwing form simply by flying through the wisp. - Wisps can be picked up by the
Chesa Kubrow}. - Wisps can be encountered at any time of day, though they can be harder to see at night. The blue shimmer on the ground at night in fact makes these harder to see. During the day the contrast of colors makes them easier to see.
- Only one Wisp is active at any one time, and collecting it will spawn another one in a different location up to a certain limit, so hunting several of them in one session will take repeated sweeps of the spawn zones. During the day, 3-4 Wisps will spawn across the entirety of the Plains. At night, the number of Wisps spawned will increase to 6-8.
- It is possible for Gara Toht Lake to spawn up to 4, or even 5 at night.
- Wisps have set spawn points and will choose from a subset of those to spawn at upon entering the Plains, after which no more Wisps will spawn for that session. To continue searching for more Wisps, players will have to spawn a new instance of the Plains. They have been found on the shoreline of nearly every notable inland lake and two streams (the one north of Gara Toht Lake leading to/through a set of small lakes, and the forked stream in the far northwest).
- An active Resource Booster or the periodical
Charm buff will double the number of Wisps picked up for the duration.
Trivia[]
- Judging from design, material, glowing light, symmetrical shape, and the fact they are more abundant in the nighttime, the Cetus Wisp is possibly Sentient in nature. They are likely a harmless, minuscule fragment of the fallen Eidolon.
- When feeding the Helminth, the Sentient Appetite category (unlocked at Metamorphosis rank 8) contains the Cetus Wisp. This confirms them to be Sentients, or at least fragments of larger Sentients.

Patch History[]
Update 34.0 (2023-10-18)
- Cetus Wisp Acquisition Changes
Another part of a Tenno’s path is improving their gear, especially once they’ve unlocked their Operator. In addition to the Focus Point acquisition changes covered above in the System Changes section, we’ve made the following tweaks to improve player acquisition for Amps:
- Cetus Wisps no longer disappear! These are crucial crafting costs for many early-game Amps, and while we did add the ability to purchase this resource from Onkko at Rank 5 Quills, this change should improve player acquisition earlier on in their journey.
- As similar pickups like Scintillant and Toroids were added to the game, this timed mechanic for Cetus Wisps felt unnecessarily complicated in contrast.
- The Cetus Wisp description was changed in Update 33.6.8 and now the functionally is live to match its new state: “Most common at night, these stone lifeforms are drawn to shorelines touched by the Eidolon. They linger around lakes on the Plains of Eidolon at all hours. Their origin remains mysterious.”
Hotfix 33.6.8 (2023-09-06)
- Updated the Cetus Wisp description to indicate better how to obtain them.
- “Most common at night, these stone lifeforms are drawn to shorelines touched by the Eidolon. They linger around lakes on the Plains of Eidolon at all hours. Their origin remains mysterious.”
- We have an additional QOL change coming to Cetus Wisps in the upcoming Abyss of Dagath Update - stay tuned!
Hotfix 24.7.2 (2019-04-17)
- Fixed the Cena Apparel Blueprint and Vahd Apparel Blueprint requiring 5 Cetus Wisps by swapping it to 5 Eidolon Gems.
Update 24.6 (2019-04-04)
- POE / CETUS ECONOMY REMASTER LITE
With Fortuna's release, we applied some general economy changes based on takeaways from Cetus. Now that we have returned to Cetus and the Plains of Eidolon with a remaster, we are applying some 'Economy Remaster' changes to go with the changes in an effort to apply our continued learnings. Change is the name of the game - thank you for all feedback on our economies and for being receptive to change!
- Replaced Arcane Blueprints with Arcanes in Hok's Offerings meaning that Arcanes no longer need to be built.
- Owned Exodia Arcane Blueprints have been converted to full-crafted Arcanes
- Removed Cetus Wisp costs from Operator Armour Blueprints, and replaced them with Eidolon Gems.
- Removed Cetus Wisps from Amp Prism Blueprint, and replaced them with Fish Parts or Eidolon Gems.
- Reduced Standing cost of Cetus Wisps from Quills Offerings (from 5k to 2k).
Hotfix 24.2.7 (2018-01-09)
- Reduced the Standing cost of Cetus Wisps from 10k to 5k.
Update 23.0 (2018-06-15)
- Moved Cetus Wisp spawn points a bit further away from water volumes in the NW corner of the Plains for gathering ease.
Hotfix 22.18.7 (2018-04-25)
- Quill Onkko has added a Cetus Wisp to his Offerings in Cetus. These can be purchased with Quill Standing for Architect level.
Update 22.16 (2018-03-15)
- A special UI message is now displayed when picking up a Syndicate Medallion or Cetus Wisp (similar to Argon Crystal).
Update 22.14 (2018-03-01)
- Picking up a Cetus Wisp now includes an FX.
Hotfix 22.13.4 (2018-02-22)
- Picking up a Cetus Wisp will now display the same special UI message like when you pick up an Argon Crystal.
Update 22.10 (2018-01-25)
- Cetus Wisps added to Ghoul Bounties.
Hotfix 22.8.3 (2018-01-11)
- More than doubled the size of the Cetus Wisp pickup radius. This will allow you to obtain the Cetus Wisp from further away instead of needing to be right on top of it.
- Fixed Cetus Wisps being updated while the game was paused -- this could lead to them escaping while you answered the phone.
Update 22.3 (2017-11-15)
- Cetus Wisps are now Uncommon in various tables.
Update 22.0 (2017-10-12)
- Introduced.

I only realize today that the Cetus Wisp has a singular eyeball that blinks
HOW do you collect them, are they found on the ground or are there more specific areas where to find them? Or do you fight the ones at night? because I have been fighting a whole bunch at night but haven't collected any. Please help.
This is my question, but my account was not logged in when I made it. But again someone please help.
You're likely mistaking vomvalyst with the wisps.
You don't have to kill the wisps they just float around water.
They're really small so take it slow until you find one and know what to look for.
They can be highlighted by "Thief's Mark" mod (recommend max it for distance otherwise its not very useful). The only way to collect it is after spotting it walk up to its floating routine (circle) and collect. K-drive over it will not collect
Camera
Can you collect them on a K-drive ?
Night time grind would be much easier if you could
Hello! Yes, you can.
No you cannot collect them on K-Drive. I just tried ride it over a wisp does not work.
Did 2 runs, 0 wisps, some of the grind in this game is absolute aids.
I got 6 in like 30mins at night (without boosters) & I only stayed around the big lake.
I did notice after scanning the shore a few times that they also fly above the riverbanks at around 30 or 40m height. Found 3 in like 2mins.
Vacuum and Greedy Pull will not pick them up and players must manually collect the Wisp, given that Wisps also ignores the 3-meter universal vacuum.
WRONG
TESTED ON 27/9/21
GREEDY PULL DOES PICK THEM UP
My strategy was to use a speed volt/ gauss and run along Gara Toht Lake. There is a guaranteed wisp spawn somewhere on the lake shore. Use loot radar/animal instinct/thief's wit to detect them without much issues. So you run around the lake, pick that one wisp , and get back to cetus. in 22 minutes I had collected nearly 20 wisps. A boring , repetitive strategy, but it works as a nice placeholder till R5 Quills
I fully recommend this method, getting a wisp every 40s
Best way for me to go is just follow the Optimal Route.png provided by this wiki, tho only for one rotation, and then bail. I was under the impression of these Cetus Wisps only spawn on a fixed number on a fixed location with no respawn timer (or a very long one). So if you're unlucky on the first 5 minute, don't stay for another 20. Just bail and try again. Doing so rewarded me about >4 Wisps per tries with each runs only taking about 3 minutes.
Optional : my build was Wukong cuz his twin just kills everything, letting u focus on wisp solely. If you don't have Archwing + Pets (for Animal Instinct), just use Rush + Thief's Wit and glue your eye on the minimap.
The best way to collect this thing is go checking all the lake in plain of eidoloins. It took me 10-15 minute to get 5-6 of them just by run and checking all lake in the map. This thing is difficult to get because it spawn a finite number per instance around 5-8, it will also disappear if you accidently see them but not collect.
To get this thing the best place to look is lake. I just took me 10-15 minute to get 5-6 them by running into only lake. Look into the map and check for lake location you can get it. This thing is difficult to get because they only spawn a finite number around 5-8 per instance and will disappear if you accident see them but not collect.
This shit is impressive levels of annoying to farm if you don't have the right setup. I just spent about an hour looking through every last puddle of fun-be-gone juice in the plains and found one of the bloody things. One! I need 35 to get my amp built. At this rate it's gonna be more efficient to just let myself get carried through Eidolon bounties over and over and over again until I can max out my quills standing and just buy the bloody things.
I got the impression it was impressive levels of annoying to farm even *with* the right setup.
I started Plague Star yesterday and already building the Clapkra Brace. Ah, what fun this is. And to the naysayers: sure, the Plague Star missions might not be the most creative, and the most diverse designs… but it beats running around the plains, looking a for tiny blip, by a million country miles.
Best you just grind bounties for this shit
I grind Plague star the next two weeks. At least on wisp per mission.
Are you able to trade cetus wisps?
Just asking because i need to get 30 of them and i cant be bothered to farm them
They are untradable
I swear these got shadow nerfed. Finding these are impossible and after 12 or so rotations for steel path bounty I got a single drop. During that time, searching the waters and finding about 2 wisps.
I feel like you may be right tbh. Back when the plains first came out I was finding a whole bunch of these without even looking for them.
Just went running around for an hour and only got 3. I am NOT spending 135 hours farming for these things if that is the average I'll find.
My god, i remember getting this things easy just by looping around lakes back when plains dropped and here i see people having a hard time even finding one. it got shadow nerfed for sure...
Let me buy them with plat, lower the quill standing requirements, or let me buy amp parts with plat. I would MUCH rather spend money than farm 25 of these dickrashes just to have an amp that ISN'T TRASH
Two words: Plague Star.
I got 40 wisps in 5 secs. just get max with the quils and buy them. ez and simple.
It IS hard. Fk off.
Lmao, no its not. Its boring to grind the rep, but it certainly isn't hard. Just requires patience.
What isn't hard for you, might be hard for others. Try some empathy.
It really isn't that hard tho, you can just get carried in eidolon culls if you're low level
-Animal Instinct
-Get on archwing and fly through edges of water bodies, via the route suggested in this wiki page
-Stop when you see loot on map. If you see wisps, fly through them to pick them up.
-Limbo is helpful for breaking multiple non-wisp loots when they show up in clusters on map.
This gives me 2 wisps in 3~5min without any resource boost, in addition to other resources picked up on the way. ~1-2min if you ignore other resources.
I have never felt luckier. I literally was just going mining to get the resources for Gara and I went around Gara Toht lake just to see if I could find one, since everyone says it's super hard. literally found 2, during day. Couldn't be any happier
These things are so bullshit to farm. Can go an entire night flying across every body of water in the map and just not have a single one spawn.
Equipped gauss and run across the big lakes, didn't even bother with the ponds, and got about 1-2 every run and a run takes about 1-2 mins once you know the route
